![]() I've been playing successfully for several months, but just switched to a different computer. I'm trying to re-download the game onto this new machine from the "reinstall" link on the website. The first try seemed to be successful; I clicked on "Preferences" and checked for it to go ahead and download optional content. But since then, it continues to download for hours, then stops on a variety of .vpk files (never the same file). After it sits stuck for a few hours, I click cancel and try re-starting the update. (I've even changed preferences back to download as I play, instead of download in advance - but nothing changes.) It updates for a few hours, then stops; it starts happily again if I cancel and restart, but again follows the same pattern. Running the thorough file scan gets to 100%, then starts patching again, as well. I've tried deleting the eq2.exe file and repatching. I've verified that my anitivrus is disabled, disabled the Windows firewall, and rebooted my DSL modem and router. I've searched the forums and support database for other things to try, but most folks with similar problems seem to be running Vista. I'm running XP. Service Pack 3. Any further suggestions? |

![]() Just a follow-up. Deleted the file that included the word "cache" and continued to stop and start. But apparently, it was enough. I restarted the download enough times that it finally completed. (Now the sound is fouled up, but that's another issue... and may not be game-related.) |

If you haven't already, I would advise checking to see if you have any updated sound drivers available. Regarding the original issue, do you have any kind of antivirus on that system? If so, which? Generally an antivirus would be the only cause for this issue outside of Vista/Windows7. If the problem persists then you might want to try disabling your antivirus temporarily.
