I started to download the  SoD around 11 am today. Saw my red "play" button,  clicked it, got error message and EQ2 shut down itself.  Started the launcher again, and ever since that download cancells itself, or progress gets stuck and download timer actually goes up instead of down.  I am getting estimated 24 hours of download time. Talked to friends in vent, it took the a few min to be done with their downloads, so there is something wrong with what is happening here.

I run Vista, so I read all I could find about overcoming problems caused by Vista and tryed all that was suggested. I am running game as admin, I made sure to check compatability mode, I disabled UAC and restarted machine and tried to patch again. Same 24 hours of download SMILEY  I've been struggling all day, its 9 pm now and I still have not found the problem. I hope you can help me.

Are you running Vista or Windows 7? If so try right click on the icon and run as administrator

Sorry, that is the standard results for Vista, try moving the eq2 directory outside of the program files directory, even with the UAC off the security model handles that directory differently, sometimes turning UAC off enhances the problems.

That's a good suggestion and may correct the issue in this case.

Besides that, it's also possible that a firewall is blocking the game.  If you have a firewall then please open the exception list and delete any entries that contain the words Everquest 2, EQ2, or launchpad.  Then restart the launcher by running as an administrator and it should ask you to allow or deny again.  Select allow and see if you can download the patch at that point.

Thank you, I now did all of that: moved Sony folder from program files folder, made sure I deleted launchpad and anything that had EQ2 word from Firewall exception list, and started Launchpad again as admin. (It asked to allow again just as you said, and I did ). After scanning for updates for awhile, it let me enter name/password and is now downloading the patch with Est. time remaining FORTEEN hours.

I am desperate SMILEY

Are you running it from the shortcut on your desktop or from the .exe in the new folder you moved the game to?  It's possible that it's trying to run download the game to the old folder.  If it was trying to redownload the entire game then that might explain the 14 hour ETA.

I changed the address in properties of old shoertcut to the new location of Sony folder outside the program files folder. Is that possible it still trying to download me the entire game? should I close it and start again by using eq2 aplication directly from the folder? I guess I'll try it cant be worse that this right SMILEY I'll keep you posted

I guess this is the time to ask a couple of more details

1. Is this a fresh install - you account shows general as a poster status so it appeatrs no active account

2. what is your connection speed - if unsure try www.speedtest.net

3. what patcher are you using - the original or new station launcher, station launcher is lot more efficient and easier to use.

If it is a fresh install, the game is arounf 10GB

1. No, it is not a fresh install. I have been playing EQ2 since day 1, never experienced a problem with downloading a patch or expansion before. I am just not a forum person and never registered for forums untill I had this need to post a question.

2.

3. the original. I also dont use profit UI (I heard its known to cause additional problems), I use Default.

What kind of connection do you have?  I just checked the site for your ISP and I can't even bring up the products and services page.  I'm getting a site not found error.

Here is something else to try.   Go to Device Manager and disable the sound card drivers.  If it is an onboard soundcard it sometimes interfears with the patcher.
