![]() For the last two weeks now I have had a problem with the EQ2 Launcher that came with my Shadows discs. I have had the discs since December and havent had a problem, as of friday two weeks ago, right after the last big patch, the EQ2 Launcher won't work and I had to grab the Station Launcher to gain access to the game. Right after clicking on the desktop icon the SOE blackbox opens and Prepares to Download Files. After a second of not doing anything an error box pops up labeled EQ2Launcher. It says"EQ2Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvience." I have run virus scans and checked to see if anything has changed in the EQ2 folder, but there is nothing I can detect that is amiss. I would like to use the original EQ2 Launcher as it gets me into the game much faster than the Station Launcher. I am using a Windows XP system and not sure what other info you may need to help me. Please advise. |

![]() It's possible that the launchpad file has been corrupted in some way. You might want to try deleting the following files from your Everquest 2 folder: cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

Okay, once I delete these files, what do I do, open the game with what? I talked to a friend of mine in a different part of the country and he had to use the Station Launcher too because his exe file would not load the game either. |

You should be able to start the game by using the EQ2.exe file in your Everquest 2 directory. You could also right click that file and select 'Send To' > 'Desktop(create shortcut)' to create a new desktop icon.

I tried deleting those files and opening the game with the EQ2.exe file and same results. Do you need me to paste my Dxdiag filr here, or is there something else I can do? Are we at the stage where I uninstall/reinstall the game yet? |

![]() What antivirus are you using on that computer? An antivirus could be causing the problem you're experiencing if it is identifying the launchpad as a security threat. That is somewhat common since the launchpad updates itself. If you're running any antivirus programs then you might want to try disabling them temporarily. You might want to disable all background applications as well, just to prevent any conflicts. To disable background programs:1. Select the START button.2. Select RUN, then type in "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search bar at the bottom of the Start Menu)3. Press OK4. Select the STARTUP tab.5. In the list, uncheck all boxes EXCEPT for SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY. If you use Windows XP, please note that SCANREGISTRY and SYSTEM TRAY will not be listed - just uncheck the entire list.6. Hit apply and then OK. Restart the computer and try the game again.
