Sorry if this is in another thread but I didn't quite see this same issue ...

Since July 8, anytime I camp from one character to another, on the same account, by using the command line parameters, without exiting the client completely, I get an application error.

So for example,

if I am on my guardianand I camp to my warlock by typing "/camp Araxes" ...

... it crashes.

This has occurred every single time when doing the command line switchover.

EDIT - it also occurs when I camp to the character select and then click on another character.  It makes it to "unloading zone" and then I get the same error.

This is on Vista 64.

Here is the crash log.old (only for the most recent which was last night although it happened several tiems prior, also).

It sounds like one of the UI files it calls when switching characters is causing a crash.  You should be able to correct it by removing the UI/settings files and letting the game repatch them.  Here is the list of files:

cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.iniAs well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

that crash log looks pretty much like mine except i'm running XP not vista, the issue started last night, camping from one character to another alt that was in a T3 guild hall. then everytime i tried to get that character in, until i finally deleted his ini files, I would get the application error. It was fine till an hour ago or so when I camped from the one i had the issue with last night to another alt, also in a T3 guild hall, boom, application error. just finished deleting his ini files and stuff and patching and gonna try to get him in again...

I got in all right after deleting all the files, zoned a couple times, switched to play another alt to run some instances, finished those went to switch back to the I had deleted the files earlier on and got the error again, so repatching the files really didnt help other then the very first time going back in it seems

I had a similar thing happen to me a few days ago, I went to a pickup raid with my illu alt and I dropped my settings from the main setup to my raid setup (to avoid HUGE lag) afterI finished I loaded up my main settings. From there each time I did /camp name I crashed!! the way I solved it was to do /load_uisettings and reload the ui from another char, this worked fine for me and I've had no problems since, you could always give that a try and see what happens.

Thanks for the suggestions Daniel but after deleting those files and realizing it will mean that I have to spend hours, literally, re-adjusting every single setting that I had customized, throughout all of the gameply and UI options -- not to mention character UI files! I just decided to deal with the problem for now.

However -

It seems oddd to me that many other people are experiencing this exact same issue, and it started at the same time for all of us - ?  People have even asked about it in the in-game chat channels on our server.  Clearly something was modifed that has affected a number of players.  Could you please pass this along to whomever it might apply to in the development chain?

My wifes computer is doing the exact same thing.   Every time (100%) she changes toons with either /camp or character selet it crashes.    My computer has no problem what so ever.    Kitti's computer has an AMD 64 bit single core running xp SP3 with ATI 1300 (AGP I know its getting old she needs a new computer).  Untill recently we had no problems what so ever with only lag being an issue due to age of video card.  I usually keep her up to date on video drivers.  I haven't updated it lately because she hasn't had any problems, so "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applied.   deleted all the files but didn't have any luck fixing the issue.  I have heard at least 10 other people having the same issue.   Please help.

I am also having the same problem exactly..... and have tried deleting the files in question, repatching and no fix.  It does not seem to happen every time however SMILEY  This is since the last GU.

My wife's computer is the same technically as mine, and yet she has no issues like this.

I'm having the same problem nearly every time i camp or camp to another character. My system crashes in a way so that i can't even terminate EQ2 via task manager. Only thing that works then is a hard reset of the system.

I can camp to another character or character select, but if I camp to desktop or /quit desktop, I get the same thing. Can't terminate via task manager, hard boot required. Maybe it's not a bug, it's a feature to keep people in game! SMILEY Happens from any zone that I've been in.

Deleting the files and repatching didn't help. And this has only happened since the last GU.

It certainly is strange that several people have been getting this issue all at once.  That's what made me believe it was a UI file change.  I'll definitely be passing any information I receive along to the relevant people but I'd also like to continue trying to diagnose the issue.

First off, if you do not wish to lose all of your settings then you can simply move the files I mentioned to another directory instead of deleting them.  That way you can move the files back to the Everquest 2 folder if the fix doesn't work and that will restore all your settings.

Also, have you tried disabling voice chat?  I believe the last few updates/hotfixes changed the voice chat service more than anything else.  If you're having a crash then you might want to try turning off voice chat to see if one of those changes is causing the problem.

Getting the same issue here after the last LU.

  • Game crashes with an "EQ2 has encountered a problem and needs to close" error while loading resources.
  • Only seems to happen when camping from a female toon to a male toon.
  • Crash does not happen every time.
  • The "loading resources" progress bar springs back a little when the crash happens (ie zoning into Lavastorm my progress bar went from 16% to 12% the second before I crashed.

Using Windows XP SP2 (SP3 causes serious issues on my machine). I'm using GPU shadows if that makes any difference. Standard game UI at 1680x1050.

Yep, i'm having the same exact problem. Happens everytime i try to switch toon and when  i camp out to desktop. I know ALOT of people have this problem since they talk about it alot in channels and asking for ideas how to fix it.

I had it since the last GU and it's starting to get VERY annoying. Especially when i have seen a group LFM in channel for a zone i need on another toon, i try to log that toon in but get the crash thing and by the time im back into game they either found replacement or i cant remember the name of the person LFM. I missed out on many questupdates this way and yes i'ts frankly [Removed for Content] me off heh.

None of the things mentioned in this thread has helped. Please fix this!

Does anyone else have crash logs from after one of these crashes?  I'm trying to find the cause of this issue and I'm looking for any common symptoms.  Another 2-3 crash logs from different people would help a lot.

Thanks

I'm having this issue too, but I just changed video cards.  It only happens when camping.  My log was a lot shorter than the OPs.  Is there another file I should use?

Glad to see your still looking into this.   I will try the voicechat.   We have noticed that sometimes we don't get kicked out I will disable voicechat on the pc and have my wife use it.  She can use vent in the mean time.  I will also try to log anything.  If that doesn't work we use Profit UI we have installed.  I will make a copy of all her ini files and Profit ui.  I will then have her use the SOE UI.  Will have to get back to you on this as she is not home tonight and I am kinda busy myself.  Thanks again for looking into this.    Cal

I just got the crash. It seems it also happens when camping to character select and then choosing a character. For me, the problem started around the 7th. Performance in the T3 guild hall has also gone down considerably, which is a complaint I've heard from some other guildies.

Same issue here and it's driving me nuts.  Using ProfitUI and WinXP.  Happens when camping from one character to another.  Happens about 60-80% of the time.  I know it's going to happen because my screen gets a bit dimmer (gamma correction seems to get a bit darker) then the crash box shows up in the middle of the screen and when I click it, it closes my game.  Wish we could get a fix for this, as it's causing me to lose places in groups as well.

Just to add to this- I also notice a lot when I'm camping from one character to another, it takes me to the character select screen instead.  Then when I click play, a box pops up informing me of something before instantly closing my client.  Not sure why it's taking me to the character select screen when I'm camping directly to another character...

I have developed the same problem again today (19th) and its really annoying.

Running XP SP3, Profit UI, nothing else running in background. Tried deleting the files and it made no difference.

Any fix appreciated.

To add more to this-  It doesn't just happen when typing /camp characternamehere

It also happens if you just type /camp and go to character select screen, then click on a character and click on play.  Still crashes out at unloading zone info.  Also has nothing to do with full screen or windowed mode, as I've tried both.
