Looking for some quick opinions on one of the Tinkerfest rewards.

The Tinkerfest merchant sells a recipe that level 400 tinkerers can use to craft a spellscroll for a Master Tinkerer's Companion.  This spellscroll can only be scribed by 400+ skill tinkerers, and summons a little clockwork fluff pet.  It's intended to be a little reward for the actual tinkerers who participate in Tinkerfest.

The question is what is preferable: should the Master Tinkerer's Companion ONLY be available during Tinkerfest, not tradeable, and not commissionable, so that if a Master Tinkerer does not get the pet during one Tinkerfest, he or she will have to wait until next Tinkerfest to obtain it?

Or, should the spellscroll be tradeable, so that tinkerers who got the recipe during Tinkerfest can make extras to give or sell to other tinkerers during the year - reducing the "specialness" of the pet, but making it available all year round and not just during Tinkerfest.

There are arguments to be made on both sides, so I'm interested in hearing a few more opinions.  If you have any, post them below!  SMILEY

Can the recipe be made obtainable by any tinkerer but not usable till you are a master tinkerer?? If so thats what I would like to see happen as I don't think I will be a master at by the time Tinkerfest rolls out. Other wise keep it special and I will get it next year. SMILEY

There are so many fluff pets in the game, whats the point of yet another one?  How many does one toon really need?  Moreover, given the lack of actually useful higher level tinkering blueprints, it would be nice if the reward mentioned actually was useful, not along the line of the usual fireworks, or gnome illusion nonsense.  As far it being tradeable or non-tradeable, as long as its fluff, who cares?

I would prefer it was tinkerer only and not tradeable.

I'd vote for Tinkerfest only, if Tinkerfest was something that occured regularly, say once every three months.

If Tinkerfest is going to be a once-a-year event, I'd vote not to limit it to just Tinkerfest.

The purpose of these events is to generate a sense of community and camrade amongst fellow players..  If i can get this item thru trade with someone what is the point of the live event??

Keep it special keep it safe..  call it precious for all i care but dont make it common that i can get it the easy way.. You guys put forth the effort to make this event we should put forth the effort to get it..   less spoonfeeding and more fun as a community in my opinion.

I would agree that the recipe for the pet should be obtainable only while Tinkerfest is live, and should be non-tradeable. However, I would still make the end-result commisionable, but make it so that it has a requirement of 400 tinkering to actually use.

That way even tinkerers who don't get the recipe on time and don't want to wait for a year to get it can have a pet made for them, but non-tinkerers won't be able to use such a pet.

The one question I have is: will the recipe be obtainable by anyone -- regardless of their tinkering skill? i.e. Can I have my alt (non-muter, non-tinkerer at the moment) buy the recipe so that I can scribe it later, once his tinkering is higher?

D.

Yes, it can be purchased by anybody, but cannot be used in any way unless you reach 400 tinkering, so it could be purchased in advance and stored in a bank.  And yes, current intention is for Tinkerfest to be a yearly event like Frostfell.

Questions about the functionality of said pet are not relevant to this thread, which is just to get some opinions on whether the pet should be obtainable between tinkerfests.  If you have general comments about the live event and its rewards, please use the stickied thread above.

Agreed since it's fluff. Those are the most specialest types of seasonal fluff items.

Is this the love that tinkerers was promised?

If this is all they get I'd honestly like to trade it in for a cow launcher capable of hitting the mobs i regularly fight.

Ie. cow launcher affects mobs 80 and below. I normally am fighting mobs 82-83. (tso instances)

Fluff is nice dont get me wrong. Rather have practical though.

Seeing as it is only a fluff pet, I say make it only available during the festival. That keeps it kind of special for tinkerers who actual participated in tinkerfest =)

Thanks for clearing that up for us. Yes it should only be obtained during Tinkerfest.

Sounds like the overwhelming agreement is that the pet should only be obtainable during Tinkerfest.  Thanks for the feedback!  SMILEY

IMO, the pet recipe should only be obtainable during Tinkerfest (but tinkerers should be able to commision it so all can use). Also during Tinkerfest I think it would be very cool to add a tradskill epic questline for tinkerers (with a cloak reward and maybe a tinkered earring with a buff similar to the earring of the solstice).

If Tinkerfest is only one time a year, I think it would be cool if the epic only opens up during this festivity.

Don't make it commission craftable - too much commission crafting in this game already. Besides it is only a stupif Fluff pet - I am sick of fluff pets. They are not usefull and suck up space in the house.

I'll get burned at the stake for going way off topic... BUT... I would LOVE a Portable Expert Hagglers Monitoring Device. Also known as a portable Broker that lets us look up prices but not actually buy anything or collect earned coin.

I love yearly event only stuff!  Really special stuff like the Frostfell dragons, and the recipes for other things that only are available on that date.  I'm already looking forward to the next Frostfell, and next halloween event.

Tinkerfest only!

I have mixed opinions on this one and at the end of the day, its a fluff pet; however, here are my end thoughts on it.

  • Scroll should be available for purchase only by Master Tinkerers and be Heirloom
  • Yes, a Master Tinkerer should be able to make them year round and they should be comissioned but you must be a Master Tinker to obtain it for comission as well.

This is a Master Tinkerer reward and my logic says that someone should not have to wait a year potentially after obtaining that status to get their reward. In saying you do, it would be akin to saying that Tradeskill Epic, Epic Weapons and Mythical Updates could only be done 1 week per year after you turn level 80 and complete the other pre-requisites.

The annual events are fun but not for new players that miss out on these things.

As I said, at the end of the day, its a fluff pet (about about one that does mana re-gens and fans you with a Peacock feather while you work?) but still, there you have it.
