There is a thread here that got me thinking about filters and ever since I have been tinkering with them and getting more and more organized with my tradeskill recipes.

So I thought I would share a few filters with my TS friends. First off you need to navigate to your EQ2 folder, default location is C:Program FilesSonyEQ2, and find a file named eq2_recipe_filter.vdl open this file with wordpad. You will se a bunch of brackets and symbols that frankly makes no sense to me, but I don't know how a lot of things work but I do know how to use them. Don't be intimidated all you need to do it Copy & Paste, it's quite easy.

I have a number of filters that consolidate recipes for all tradeskills into one filters, this works because if you do not have the recipe it will not show, but if you do have the recipe it will show using the filter, but keep in mind that if you have no recipes in the filter at all you will get a default listing of every recipe you have this is normal functionality. You can C&P these filters into your eq2_recipe_filter.vdl file or use the information to make your own filters, it's up to you.

Adornments: This is a listing of all adornment recipes for the main tradeskills, I keep Xmuting and tinker seperate since they are secondary and will make a messy filter if added in but I will add them to this post so you can have a seperate filter or add them to this one yourself.

What I can't figure is why you're editing those by hand.

Because she's setting up filters that work for multiple crafter types SMILEY.  The tier ones you don't need to do by editing, but to get one filter to handle all crafter types of adornments, for example, there is no way to do it except through editing the file.  If you create a filter for adornments on your carpenter and then try to add your jeweller books, the carpenter entries poof when you open the editor on the jeweller.

I guess I'm completely missing the point of this.  What does it get you?  I don't have trouble finding recipes very often, is that what this is for?  I'm really puzzled by the level of effort put in here.

Because when you have multiple tradeskillers it is inconvenient to have a bunch of separate recipe filters. Having a filter for jeweler adornments  AND tailor adornments AND Alchemist etc for every class is cluttered and unnecessary.

If you don't need them then don't use them.

Thanks Bratface, superb work. I hadn't appreciated that there was a file there that we could tailor. Marvellous

Hmmm.  Interesting.  I didn't know you could edit the file directly.  My filter list is getting a little out of control and this will help organise it for me.

Thanks Bratface.

No reason to get all hostile, it was a simple question.

I have 10 epic crafters, I was just curious what the purpose was.  I don't really use filters much at all, I'm still kind of missing the point of all this filtering.  Is it because you have trouble finding the recipes or... ?

I have 10 epic crafters, I was just curious what the purpose was.  I don't really use filters much at all, I'm still kind of missing the point of all this filtering.  Is it because you have trouble finding the recipes or... ?

When on my provi making adornments I select "T8 adorns" a filter that I've saved, on my other crafters I type in "smoldering" to filter it. With Bratface's method I can use "T8 adorns" for all my adorment making needs. Without this method if I wanted to save the filter for my carpenter I'd have to save a 2nd filter, e.g. "T8 adorn carp". So the point of the filtering is ease of use and time saving IMO. If you currently use saved filters then you'll be able to have considerably less filters. SMILEY

Oh, I see!  On one crafter you can't select the books for another crafter, and when you do select books it clears the other ones.  Nice!

And opening the filter editor in game on even just one of these will erase its 'extras' for classes other than the class you're on at that moment.

If a new book is added into the game, you would need to open the files again in a text editor to modify them. There is no quick (or easy) way in-game to have filters (other than strictly by level) which cover all classes.

Also, if you mistype or misedit or your computer decides to save the file as .txt no matter what you're doing, your filter would be unusable. In the case of a mistype or misedit, it could cause issues with opening the tradeskill interface. With a .txt save by your computer, you'd be using either the default filter or a previous version of an edited filter.

I'm impressed Bratface did the filters (not because I don't think -she- could, but that it was done at all), I just see a lot of pittfalls with them.

Anyone using them should treat their use as an Interface modification (which is 100% allowed) with the same issues and benefits inherient in them.

In fact, Bratface should submit them to the various UI mod sites since they are good thing.

You have a point there, it honestly hadn't occured to me that could get messed up by a bad C&P or ingame editing, I haplessly thought that if I could do it anyone could. But on the bright side it is easy to fix.

I don't know anything about modding....So not sure where this would be useful.

Yes.  I do think these filters are nice.  Wish we could download them. Anyone know of a site she could add them to? I suppose we will just have to settle for cutting and pasting but that could lead to errors that wouldn't exist in a downloaded file

Figuring out you could edit them in a text file -and- figuring how to edit in the right sequences IS modding SMILEY  You did a good job for not knowing anything about it *chuckle*.  You should, as you did here, offer them up as raw files with instructions. Someone else might pick it up and make and out of game editor which is more 'friendly'.

As for thinking up the ways they'll break... well.. can you tell I do product testing for a living? All day long I have to figure out how to break things in the easiest (and most complex) of ways and find the scope of how every change can ripple effects. I'm good at seeing the ways things can fail *laugh*.

I will be happy to post the entire file somewhere as soon as I finish it. I sent a pm to a mod at eq2interface asking if I could post it there.

There are so many possible filters that not everyone would need but some may want, I am working on tiered filters for advanced books right now because someone requested it.

If there are any particular filters you want in a file I can do that for you if you like.

I will be adding more filters to this post soon as well as finding a place to host the file itself.

I have submitted it for approval to eq2interface, I am waiting to see if it is approved.

If not I will put it up somewhere for everyone to access.

Heya.  Two things i noticed going through the file on EQ2interface.

  • Your T3 filter has a Inquisitor Class filter on it.
  • Also, your Tinker adornments list is missing quite a few recipes.  Try searching on Zam's recipe listing for Apparatus, Dohickey and Hexamajig.  That should get most of them.

Other than that, nice work.

Posting this here as well as at interface as I am not sure where you check most often.

Great add, my filters were starting to drive me nuts...if I had known that I could have edited them like this...well needless to say....a round of applause. I have a few that you could add or that individuals can add if they have these recipes. Mind you many might not have it...it was for a guide event to get the Axes. RecipeFilter { name = "axes" filterItems = [ RecipeFilterItem { name = "RecipeBook" selected = [ "Decorating With Axes" ] } the other is for Provisioner, I looked through the file and didn't see these books. RecipeFilter { name = " Provie Mastery" filterItems = [ RecipeFilterItem { name = "RecipeBook" selected = [ "Provisioner Mastery volume 1" "Provisioner Mastery volume 2" "Provisioner Mastery volume 3" ] } ] } this one is for the KOS recipes RecipeFilter { name = "KOS" filterItems = [ RecipeFilterItem { name = "RecipeBook" selected = [ "Recipes for the Aggressor's Claws" "Recipes for the Chamberlain's Flayed Skin" "Recipes for the Counselor's Head" "Recipes for the Kettleleader's Preserved Corpse" "Recipes for the Taskmaster's Gullet" ] } ] } For alters RecipeFilter { name = "Alters" filterItems = [ RecipeFilterItem { name = "RecipeBook" selected = [ "Deity Altar Crafting" "Advanced Deity Altar Crafting" ] } ] } Wanita furniture RecipeFilter { name = "Wantia" filterItems = [ RecipeFilterItem { name = "RecipeBook" selected = [ "Nurwin Family Secrets" ] } Great job again.

Thanks for the input!

I have removed the Inq filter (oops, made stuff for my new alt) and I have added as many tinker adornment recipes as I can find on wiki, I tried "zam" but it was too cumbersome and kept giving me errors redirecting me to their advertwise.com whatever that is...

Tinker I added from wiki tinker page:

Arctic Shimmering ApparatusArctic Sparkling ApparatusArctic Glimmering ApparatusArctic Luminous ApparatusArctic Lambent ApparatusScrewloose's Arctic Apparatus Toxic Shimmering ThingieToxic Sparkling ThingieToxic Glimmering ThingieToxic Luminous ThingieToxic Lambent ThingieScreewoggins' Poisonous Paraphernalia Draining Shimmering DohickeyDraining Sparkling DohickeyDraining Glimmering DohickeyDraining Luminous DohickeyDraining Lambent DohickeyTinmizer's Terrible Thingamajig Gnort's Flickering HexamajigGnort's Shimmering HexamajigGnort's Sparkling HexamajigGnort's Glimmering HexamajigGnort's Luminous HexamajigHoly Lambent HexamajigEznertob's Consecrated Contraption

I will be updating the filter later today after I get home from shopping, will be adding these that Feyannwn contributed as well as the Emerald Halls recipes I managed to track down on eq2.eqtraders.com

I am adding the Emerald Halls recipes but I am concerned with their format.

I found this list on EQ2.eqtraders.com

     Tunare's Gifts Volume 1     Tunare's Gifts Volume 2     Tunare's Gifts Volume 3     Tunare's Gifts Volume 4     Tunare's Gifts Volume 5     The Tenders Secrets Volume 1     The Tender's Secrets Volume 2     The Tender's Secrets Volume 3     The Tender's Secrets, Volume 4     The Tender's Secrets Volume 5     Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 1     Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 2     Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 3     Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 4     Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 5

There is a comma in "The Tender's Secrets, Volume 4" but not in the others and shows "The Tenders Secrets Volume 1" without an apostrophe, and on wiki it lists "Tunare's Gifts Volume 2" (without comma from eq2traders) as "Tunare's Gifts, Volume 2" (with comma).

Can anyone confirm the format/names of the recipe books? I'd like to have them right before I add them to the filter.

I would go with the eq2i version.  http://eq2.wikia.com/wiki/Category:...d_Halls_Recipes

so it should be:

Tunare's Gifts, Volume 1 to 5The Tender's Secrets Volume 1 to 5Thirneg's Cultivation Volume 1 to 5
