hi just recently came to eq2 from wow and was thinking of rolling an assassin and i am down to either a dark elf or a human for a race. My question is would i be gimping myself at all by rolling a human assassin or are the racials not really that important. Also in the future i plan on trying to raid with this char.

Stats wise it really doesn't matter, what does matter is racial traits.Gnomes get a deagro ability that works sweet and has saved my assassin a ton of times.

Honestly, it depends alot if you're on a pvp server vs pve....Kerrans on a pvp server have alot of surviveability...

it doesn't matter at all..just study the racial abilities (which is rather new) and see what fits you. There's tradeskill buffs, and more melee skills, and even stealth enhancements. If you like the racial skills but not the race, you could always get an illusion. There's a Dark Elf Illusion mask, and theres LoN cards that have creature illusions. There's also Petrified Eyes, but those consume something every 6 hours. Only problem is, you can't exactly control what your illusion looks like, so you may have a funky looking face. However, reliable traits are hair and eyes. My Wood Elf has red hair and green eyes, and whenever he changes to something they have red hair and green eyes as well. Even better, his Ratonga illusion gives his ratonga a beard, which is technically a glitch. This works for even classes that don't have red colored hair as an option, such as dark elves, so this can work to your benefit. Face wise, the dark elf illusion that he gets is fine; his face is sinister looking and not messed up, but the high elf illusion makes the high elf look like he's about to cry and whimper. There are /moods you can set to kind of fix it. I do /mood angry while in high elf and he looks a bit better.Don't forget there are two character models so if you don't like a race, or hate the hair styles dark elves have, don't forget that there is a SOGA model

(( from what ive heard, the advantages of dark elf are higher natural critical chances, which is a HUGE deal in endgame assassin-ing. As an ogre assassin i can say ogres are awesome due to very high natural STR, and a stun-cure/stun-preventer on a quick recast timer that we get racially.Race does matter, but only if you really want to milk your character for 100% of their versatility and efficiency.

The increased poison triggers for DE and Rats are important for saving $$ because of the cost of dust now.

Thanks for the replys everyone i ended up not making a DE or a Rat decided to go with a Human although the poison thing is a plus i hope its not that big of a deal, although i plan on doing alchemy with my assassin to make poisons for myself.
