So I took the plunge and started up EverQuest 2. I made a Sarnak Shadow Knight and now I'd like some questions answered, please.Their main stats? Strength, Stamina and Intelligence, yes? Strength governing melee attack power and int governing spell damage and mana pool? For soloing. Sword and board? Or a big ole' 2handed weapon? I assume I'll be sword/shield combo for tanking.Optimizing, Should I be gearing towards strength or intelligence? I think I heard somewhere that the lions share of my damage would be from spells and not melee.

Yes, main stats are STR, STA and INT.   Both STR and INT increase mana pool.  STR for melee damage, INT for spell damage is correct.

Definitely sword and board for tanking, for soloing it depends on the gear you can get your hands on but a good two hander will usually win out.

You will want as much STR and INT as you can get.  Try and keep them both as high as you can without unduly sacrificing either one.  Stay in offensive stance as much as possible for the INT/damage boost, only really need to switch to defensive if you are taking too much of a beating in offensive for your life taps/healer to keep up.

Damage is moderately biased toward spells but enough comes from melee to make it worth paying similar attention to both.

Sword & board have worked very well for me both for soloing or tanking. When solo (especially if in offensive stance) the shield gives just a enough protection to make things not pound on me quite so hard.

Yes STR, STA, & INT are the main stats to focus on. Strength dictates both power pool and damage you do. Int again power pool for all those lovely spells we have. Stamina of course is a fighter's friend dictating your max health.
