Similar to this problem: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=421445

I'm posting this one because the other topc died after one response.

I'm using Windows XP, SP2 I believe, and while my rig isn't the best, it meets the requirements to run the game. What happens is, it scans the files, and I can select the "play" option. Once I do, the EQ2 name/icon shows up on the taskbar, then disappears and closes down. I have no idea why this is happening. Any ideas?

Greetings,

While I'd like to  help you with this issue, I'll need some more information from you to narrow down the possible causes.  If you could please provide the dxdiag/msinfo results as requested in the following thread we may be able to find the problem.

...I had that entire bit of information posted, and a script error on this page caused me to lose it all.

I'll post it in a moment.

Well, I just copied and pasted everything again and got another scripting error. It posted this message, and even showed I had edited my reply (which I did - I had pasted the info in and submitted it) but the info didn't show up.

Edit: You know what? I don't the game will run no matter what: My laptop's video card doesn't have Pixel Shader 1.0 or Vertex Shader 1.0. How lame is that? Could that be the cause of this problem?

It would appear so heh.

I thought this card had pixel shader 1.0, but not 2.0. I guess it has neither.

I still have my trusty desktop though!

(I'm going to go ahead and assume that's why the game closed?)

I'm having the same problem and guess I'll have to post the info from my other comp which is having the issue.  But in the meantime -- I was playing fine on Guk in the Fens zone and did a /camp toon to switch to another character.  The game went to desktop, so I kinda thought maybe I wasn't thinking and did /exit in error...So I restarted the game using the regular launcher and noticed that something smallish downloaded.  The game seemed to start ok and I saw the usual loading X character, loading entities, loading zone.... then poof.  Back at desktop without any error messages.  Same thing loading to Character Select and choosing a character there.  But everytime I restart the game, something small that I can't catch the name of still downloads.I decided it was a good time for a nap, so started patching Test up and when I came back a half hour or so later, I hit Play with no character selected.  Load into character select fine, pick a toon, loading, loading...and again, poof, back to desktop.  So I tried one more time and even on Test I'm getting 1 or 2 smallish files downloading/updating everytime, and the same poof backto desktop problem.FYI, I am running XP SP2, patched up to date and was working perfectly up until I camped to another toon.  I went into the EverQuest2Patch.log files for the last couple of times that I started the game and see the same file downloading:  zcal801b.TTF.fot  dloadsize=387  totalsize=1409  crc=-643103977with some distribution stuff listed:  quest-en-vo, city-en-vo, combat-en-vo, optional-en, adv1-en, adv2-en, exppak01-en, exppak02-en, adv3-en, exppak03-en, main-pur, exppak03-pur-en, exppak04-en, exppak04-pur-enAnd checking my latest Test patch log the same items are being downloaded.

If you are all having the same issue. Your problem is a non supported video card.  Now if you do have a supported video card, your issue is not the same and needs to go in one of the appropriate threads or create your own please.
