I have a question, and it's comparing the pally and guardian, so fairly different playstyles and classes right?

Gonna post this in the guardian forums too to guage their response.

Firstly - I WILL NOT RAID.  I'm not against raiding, but with time constraints I will never eevr get time to raid, so please when responding bear that in mind SMILEY

So, I want to take up the role of a tank, and wanted to be good at it (obviously i know this is largely down to the player, but I am good!).  I heard Pallies are gods at agro holding?  Due to a agro transfer type skill thingy?  If this is the case then that's half the battle won, but what about mitigation issues?  Can pallies take a good pounding?  I guess not as much as a guardian as pallies get heals and wards, but then thay sounds like they make up for it.  Only reason I ask is that I have a beserker who I was gonna betray to a guard, but recently was in a group with an amazing pally and didn't know they coudl tank quite so effectively, he was a top bloke and a better tank!  So I wanted to join the club SMILEY

How do beserker's fit into this equation (if they do/can)?

Remember, I won't raid and want to be good at group tanking and have fun - so agro control and survivability are the things!  Also consider there wil always be a healer of sorts around, I won't solo much on this tank.

Apreciated responses guys, just hope it's feasible to argue and compare paladin vs guardian issues SMILEY

I spend my game time mainly doing groups with some light raiding from time to time.In a group scenario all the Plate tanks perform well, I have never played the other plate tanks in T7 or T8 but I can tell you that holding agro as a Paladin in a group is a breeze. You will generally find that you have a group member who is head and shoulders above the other members in terms of hate from DPS etc to put Amends on (hate transfer) and that you can keep agro on your self with little effort.Any small difference in Mit isn't that noticiable in a group and wards work well. Group and emergancy heals/damage absorbers (Lay Hands and Divine Aura) can make the life/death difference and extra utilites like Resurection come in handy from time to time. While Guardians are widely accepted as the raid tank of choice as a Paladin I find it easy to find groups and easy to cope with the content. From what I know of berserkers they rely more heavily on DPS and landing hits to keep agro. Never played one at high level but as I said at the beginning of my post all the Plate tanks work well in groups and although you see them tanking less often (on my server at least) the Monk/Bruiser classses work fine as well. Ing groups it really comes down to deciding which class you find most fun.

In a group role, there really isn't a significant difference between guardians and paladins. We both tank well, we both hold agro well. Generally speaking, if all your worried about is holding agro, we're on par.

Now if your talking about DPS, guardians can hurt their survivability to more or less double their dps. Paladins can't do that. At best we can raise our DPS by about 30% by concentrating on the int line.

One interesting thing to say, is that paladins get a broader range of desirable equipment. The downside is that we don't get as focused on stats so our highest stats arn't as high as a guardians would be. Having all of our stats be important kinda hurts.

Honestly, in a pure grouping role it comes down to a play style thing. Check both out and see which one suits you better.

Paladins are extremely versatile group level tanks, I would suggest they are the best at group content. They can be more demanding to play at the max when you are concentration on patch healing as well as all the usual tank stuff. Yes healers should heal, but often I am in groups that are under healed, try doing Reet Mines with one healer SMILEY

HOW many other classes can take any role in the group?

Bah.. Im not even going to go into this one... just be versatile, be ready to play any role, and you will get way more group invites when you can do anything well, and people get to know it.
