I've been looking into ways of improving performance lately, and many times I look at raid situations for obvious reasons. I wanted to point out a method for reducing the amount of bandwidth during combat with lots of people around. Some of you might already be aware of this, but I would guess many people aren't.If you aren't interested in seeing the spell flavor text for spells being cast and wearing off, disable those messages under Chat Options. Instead of forcing them to another tab that you don't look at, make sure they are not checked on any of your chat tabs. This will tell the server not to send them to you at all, and should save a decent amount of bandwidth during combat. The same thing is true for all chat messages. As long as the messages are going to ANY window, the server will send them to you. If you disable them from all chat windows, you won't receive them at all. With the new Connection Stats window, you should see a drop in your BPS during combat if you disable some of these spammy messages.

Sorry this really only affects raids (and the odd heroic encounter), to non-raiders.Some of us actually want as much info as possible in raids, to see everything happen and try and make sense of events in scripts (range of aoe, object spawns, mob spawns and mob effects). However some of the new mythical weapons kill system performance (even on top end rigs). The perfect example of this is March of Blades from the Dirge epic, or Maestro from the Troub epic .... its a bazillion particle effects at once and although amazing to watch its painful for ones CPU/GPU. We probably need some additional options for spell effects/text output rather than number of effects per person and global on/offs etc. Self, Group, Raid, Hostile, Stationary/Intractable? Possible at all?

True, not every tip or trick will be applicable to everyone. However, when I find something that might help performance for some players, even if its only a few, I will post it.The idea of having more control over particle effects was mentioned in my "What bugs you" thread, so I'll be commenting on it soon when I've had time to compile all of the issues and discuss them with our leads.

Will this effect the ability to see mob emotes? As they are key to them using some of there abilities, it would be good to know before turning it off.
