Ok, so I've actually played a bit of EQ2, a few months perhaps, but I quit for awhile and now I am coming back.  And I've always had terrible alt fever.  So now I want to decide which class to play, once and for all.I've narrowed it down to necro or wizard being as how I like casting.I've played wiz to 17, liked it a good bit, but definitely noticed a slow down in how well I could solo.  Perhaps I was doing something wrong, perhaps just a bad level range.I've never played necro, but I hear they are awesome soloers too.Basically, I want the one that can solo with the least downtime.Also, since I am assuming the necro forum is going to tell me to go necro, some advice on soloing AA's and such would be appreciated.

About AAs - check the sticky "Becoming a better Necro" guide, it has a good explaination about different AA sets. But what I personally did - put AAs into first tree in Necro line (third tab) and second tree - for better pet and more heal amount for pet. Once I had enough total AAs (22? 25? can't remember exactly) for Tainted Heals - I respec'ed and placed everything to get Tainted Heals. Since I got it, my life as Necro became much easier SMILEY

P.S. Also if you like soloing (as I do), check this Soloing Timeline - was a great help for me too.

Well most classes in EQ2 solo fairly well. Wizards do good but your almost stuck with root and nuke, root and nuke. A Necro will bring more versatility to the table. First off you got a tank pet to take all the damage for you. You will get Lifetap spells in those situations where you may get jumped by an add before your pet can gain aggro. On top of that you can have a self heal ability gained from the Wisdom line. If things get really out of whack at later levels you will have the feign death capability. Not to mention a small army of temporary pets will become available to you. Two normally scirbed spells, one temporary pet will come later from the soul siphoning spell and once you go down the Strength line you'll gain another temp pet ability. Last but not least our equivelent to the Conjuror's Plane Shift spell we get Undead Tide. This will summon a pack of 4 undead skellies, the number could be more depending on if there are any mobs corpses you recently killed laying around. The drawback is the long recast time. Almost forgot to mention Lich. This will do a little damage, heal you a little and help regenerate power all in one spell. This spell will greatly help to decrease your downtime between encounters.

As far as AA lines on the summoner tree I went down the STA and WIS lines first and am now working on STR since the release of RoK and the cap level increase. On the necromancer tree I first buffed up my tank then went down the Manipulations line to get Tainted Heals. This is an absolute must have for a necro that plans on taking on something you would generally pass on for the fear of being killed. It essentially heals your pet everytime you cast a manipulations spell. There are quiet a few so it's like having 4-6 different pet heal spells. After gaining Tainted Heals I went down the Rot or Rotting line I think it's called for Lifeburn. Now with RoK cap increase I am working on the pet enhance line to improve all pets, temp pets and undead tide spell.

All in all you will gain more as your level increases with basically all classes. When comparing a Wizard to a Necromancer for soloing the Necro will gain more versatility. Where as the Wizard from what I understand is all about straight forward damage and alot of it (Personally have only played one up to level 35 before.) So I personally prefer a little variety over the monotonous root and nuke, root and nuke technique.
