brand new to eq how to get AA's question and quest question

ok i searched the forums and am still not to clear... how does a new player to eq2 who is enjoying wizard gain aa's?

any tricks? any specific things to kill to help you get them, better to toss in crafting and harvesting in the mix? i am level 16 and currently only have 4 seems to be a bit low to me.

also have heard there is a few early quests you "have to do" to get a few new ability's/spells that are life savers. where do i find them or get the quests?
