like the title states, this is a short guide. it is NOT meant to be as comprehensive as other guides, but it WILL give you a good grasp of the basics as a lowbie. this guide is intended for new and lowbie wizards lvl 40 or less.

first thing to remember: GOING PURE INT ON ARMOR AND GEAR IS A DEATH SENTANCE USUALLY, WHEN SOLO. personally, i prefer the armor that has ONLY +sta and +int on it, because at T3 (lvl 22) the mastercrafted armor, you will loose 12 int, but GAIN 28 sta. that makes your HP usually around 500 less than your power pool. trust me, this makes a HUGE difference in PUGs and solo. in PUGs, you WILL gank agro, and gank it often, so this will help immensely.

second thing is this: after you spend your first aa on the KoS tree, start spending ALL your next 10 aa on maxing out magi's shielding enhancement AA in the EoF tree. this also makes such a huge difference its not even funny.

and lastly: if you get alot of resists, upgrade your skills AND your spells. personally, each level i have PLENTY of time, even with vitality to max out defense, subj, focus, and dist. VERY easy to max defense with this gear setup, because with the extra sta, if root breaks you can usually tank the solo con mobs long enough to burn them down before you die. even yellows 3 levels above you. they MUST be solo con, and NOT heroic tho to be able to do them 3 levels above you.

something else to consider doing asap: getting the first section of the solsek ro questline done so you unlock the first 2 abilities, most noteably the wrath of the burning prince ability. couple that with your master 2 of ball of fire at 24, and you have a killer combo. you WILL get a named similar in level to you down to below 50% hp easily. similar in level, meaning one level above yours or below. anything more and you might kill it or you might not, depending on resists to your root. at 33, i can ALMOST one shot the orc named just outside the docks in zek, the raidleader or something like that. i say almost because with wrath + ball of fire master 2, i can hit him for over 11K total damage, which gets him down to between 5-10% hp left. if i root him first, i can usually nearly kill him before root breaks and my root is adept 3 and STILL gets resisted alot with maxed subj on him. on normal mobs, root breaking isnt much of a problem.

the ones you want to adept 3 or master 1 or even master 2 when you can are your single target, huge damage nukes. especially the fire based ones. that and your roots. those are the ones you should focus most of your time keeping at adept 3 or better. the rest can be app 4 till you get lvl 52+ where master 1 spells tend to be cheaper per level than below that level range.

if you can afford them, +spell damage adornments and cloaks are your friends. they make your spells hit that much harder. makes a big difference, usually moreso than pure int.

again, this is meant for new wizzys, and not higher level ones, but for most new wizzys, the info here should help your soloability alot. hope it helps, and good luck.

PS.

this can also apply to new warlocks too, as far as the gear is concerned anyway.

Thanks for the info. Tremendously more useful than the stickied long post, which appears dated btw.Um where can I find info about "solsek ro" questline? I am new to eq2!edit: ok i figured out this was refering to a deity questline. I have read that there are 3 deities being added in RoK - Best to wait till then or no? Is solsek ro the best choice for wizzys?ty

you may want to add in some AA choices other than magi's shielding.  for instance you speak a lot of resists, if you go down the stamina line in kos tree the 4th ability raises your casting skill, decreasing the number of resists.  plus the final ability, manashield is a lifesaver in my book.  with this combination i can solo orange single up mobs without really bothering with root.  root is adept 3 and my nukes are all adept 3 or better as well.  i dont like using root much because i miss out on the extra damage from coldshield since it is guaranteed im gonna get hit lol.  just my 2 cp to add.

With all the defensive AA, I was trying out a trick on attacking three non-grouped mobs that were pretty spread out. I would root  the first one and cast my Fireball. I then moved on to the second mob and repeat. By the time I get into range of the third mob and start casting Fireball, the first root has broken and the mob is heading towards me. By the time the Fireball is released and hits the mob, the second mob's root has broken and is heading towards me. I then activate of IceShield and start moving towards the rooted third mob. I time it so just as the two mobs arrive, I'm in melee range with the third rooted mob. I then point blank AoE and let the IceShield and Static Discharge do it's job. I then single nuked any survivors.
