![]() I'm a high officer for Ordo Draconis and was needing some help for our guardian. Is there a good casting order for a raiding tank? Looking for something that will help with aggro besides group set up and such. |

![]() It really depends on what you are doing, but mostly its something like this: Prior to pull: Sentry Watch- it lasts for 15 seconds and it a "no die" for everyone in Guardian's group. If a bad guy hits somebody in the Guard's group, it casts Reinforcements on that guy and credits the agro to the Guardian. Also, if the person hit dies, it keeps them from dying and heals them 7%. Stone Sphere: Many Guardians use this here, I do on occasion. It makes all damage done to the group go to the Guard. It has no hate component, but its good at surviving those initial seconds of an unsecured pull. Tower of Stone: Some tanks hit it to eat the Mobs first two-three hits. I usually wait. On Pull: (gets complicated here because every pull has a different... pull. Is it a pet pull? Hex doll? Body pull? Arrow? Each one has a separate hate component.) Reinforcements + AE (Besiege, Dragoon's Cyclone): If it's a GROUP I always lead with Reinforcements (assuming I have a good AE position). Its too valuable to sit and wait )as if you sit, your healers could die if a bad guy peels. If it's a SINGLE mob, I skip this. Confront; Protection; Vindictive Strike: ONE of these should do. A quick taunt. Vindictive Strike is the best, but you may not have range. Otherwise, I suggest using Protection (group taunt). If (and ONLY IF) its resisted, would I use Confront. Obliterate, Flay, Retaliation Strike, Lay Waste, Executioner's Attack (STR line): Okay, after you get the mob on you, I HIGHLY recommend DPS'ing the ever-loving crap out of it with the attacks above. Obliterate SHOULD go first- it's the best single attack Guards have- it can do upwards of 2K damage on a crit, and is a big debuff. Many Guards consider it a "ghetto Rescue" because the hate it generates is sick. Then, because defense SHOULD be debuffed, FLAY- Flay is pure damage, its huge. Then Debilitating Strike, and Lay Waste (Lay Waste will be down if Besiege was used as above). If you have an AE here (and its multiple baddies) use that here as well. I cannot stress this enough: DAMAGE (not taunts) is the PRIMARY way guards keep agro since the EoF update. Right here is where you have to (temporarily) pull ahead of the dps. You also want your reuse timers starting as soon as possible. After Agro is Established: Debuffs (the few left: Merciless Charge, Sever, Buffet): Quick hits- make sure they land, then move on. Spam Taunts: Protection, Confront, Vindictive Strike- use them HARD. When a good CA comes up, HIT IT! Stay Alive: Make sure to keep Command and Wall of Force handy as well as Stone Sphere and Tower of Stone (assuming you have not used them). Also, if you have the AGI line, Dragoon's reflexes. Reinforcements: This is important. Work with DPS on when they will use their big attacks (Ice Nova, Decapitate, Fusion). Just prior to that, buff Reinforcements and stay ahead of that curve. Reinforcements can be used as a "Oh CRAP" button, but its more effective as a preventative measure. If the tank coordinates with the dps, its actually MORE effective. Rescue: If something goes wrong- rescue and worry about the reuse timer later. I hope that provides a good foundation.

If you are looking for a more general purpose response regardless of how you pull...Obliterate (for the debuff and the fact its a heavy hitter, always start with any debuffs that make it more likely for subsequent debuffs to land)Sever (After you debuff the mobs ability to hit.. debuff its ability to do damage and apply dots)Merciless Charge (Again dot and debuff)Buffet (Debuff)---> If Vampire hit: Corpsecrush---> If Str spec: Executioners Wrath + Flay (Big high damage bit that combined with Wrath will give you a nice high hit early on to counter the rangers and warlocks)After Flay---> If Int spec hit Acceleration strike followed by Retaliation strike, Staggering blow, and Precise Strike--->Start HO --->Overpower and follow up with whichever taunt is availableImportant things to remember:HO's can play a big part in holding aggro. Make sure your MT dirge knows when to flip HO's to get what you need based on the encouter you are in.keep running Sever, Merciless Charge, and Buffet as soon as they are up.After the initial hit combo with Executioners Wrath and Flay try to time it with lay waste or besiege depending on the encounter. On group encounters I try to nail Reinforcement on incoming then a couple big hits to start and follow it up with Dragoon spin, and besiege. Also if you lose aggro don't be afraid to use intercede to protect the OT or the noob ranger.
