Good day all.  I have purchased a new computer system, not for me, and I wanted to test it.  Since it's much better than mine I wanted to see how EQ2 would run on it, so I grabbed my EOF Disc pack and installed Basic, DoF, KoS and EoF with no issues and in no time.  When I ran the launcher it did its file verification and scrolled up to 99%, I think it hit 100 but switched really fast, then the status message went from DOWNLOADING to DOWNLOADING CANCELED.  Also under the drop down character list it said no characters available.  I have tried a couple of times as well as going into options and doing full file scan with the same results every time.  The system is Vista and the program is set to run as Admin and on the last try I selected XP SP2 compatability.  After the new system failed several times I went to my old machine and logged in fine and played for a couple of hours, so its not my Internet connection. Anyone with any suggestions?  Or is there an option I missed for pointing to a specific server group? TIA

Reason why no characters showed up is because you never logged into the game for it to create the text file with the character names and info. As to the download canceled issue, do a search of the forums lots of posts about it and vista.

Ok I managed to get it to work finally.  Turns out that having UAC turned on prevented the launchpad from properly downloading and installing the files.  There were no errors or notes or warning that maybe some files were being skipped or not installed.  With UAC off, several more launcher files were downloaded and installed and once within the patcher it downloaded alot of update files.  I thought it had already done that during the initial install.

I am fairly new to Vista so I am not sure if there is a safer way to reduce the security settings for the EQ2 patcher but turning off the UAC worked for me.
