as a former player of Vanguard, sony sent me an offer to download a free digital copy of EQII, including the first 3 expansions and the first 3 adventure packs.  i have been downloading it for 30 hours now over cable modem and it still says it has 18 hours to go.  The download is progressing so its not llike its stuck or anything.  the folder is currently 3.36 gigs with 1444 files in it.  can anyone tell me how big it will get.  i cant believe it is going to take 48 hours?  thanks for any help

Not sure on exact numbers, but think the whole download atm is about 6-8 gigs with all the expansions, so it will take you a bit. People usually say its about 7+ hours with a good connection. It takes forever, but it's absolutely worth it.

Its about 7 or 8 GIG's. For a cable modem your download speed seems to be very very very slow. I did the math and your averageing about 51k/s which is about 56K speeds

I'm having the same issue. I think something is wrong with SOE's patcher.

the patcher is a bit fickle. If it seems to grind to a halt, click "Cancel download" or whatever it says below Updating, and then click "Download" to force it to reconnect. Usually picks up in speed after that, but if you are on modem (or slow DSL) it takes forever.

You must have a REALLY slow connection; 6-8 hours is about "average".  My whole EQ2 folder, minus the Test Server folder and including all expansions and adventure packs and a bunch of screenshots, is 8.06GB and 4523 files. Edit:  honestly, unless your ISP really stinks, I'd stop it and restart and see if you can't get a cleaner connection.

I received the same offer from Sony, as a former player of Vanguard.  It took me a total of almost 19 hours to download everything, and I have a cable connection too.

I'm only level 10, but I'm having a lot of fun, it was worth the wait!

The download started with 8 hours to finish, and I could live with that. It stalled a few times and I restarted the download.  After DLing for about 14 hours I got the timer down to 8 minutes, and it stalled again. But when I restarted the DL, it hit me with 20 hours and climbing. It now reads 37 hours and I only have 3.7 gigs down.

I've got Comcast Broadband and a fancy computer. This has to be a server issue, overloaded from all the postcards. I should have started the DL the day I opened the mail. I stayed up tonight thinking the timer was semi legit, but I stayed up for nothing, I'm not even half way done with the DL SMILEY

That might actually be it, if the postcards are actually bringing in a crapton of players interrested in checking out the new and improved EQ2. The only time I've ever seen it go up to such high numbers was due to the dl stalling, and me kicking it around (eerm, stopping/starting it) usually got it back in order. (Even helped a friends relative install it, and the update didnt take very long to them on a really crapppy carrier WLan.) My suggestion is a quick talk with CS.

I finally finished the download at 50 hours.  i agree with the idea that alot of people took the postcard offer and that had a lot to do with the lengthy time.  i guess the 50 hours is worth getting the game free with 3 expansions and 3 adventure packs.  plus 1.5 month free play time.

I logged in for a short time to see how things looks.  graphics were nice.  i look foward to playing.  thanks to everyone who posted replies and to everyone else still downloading, be patient SMILEY

Same here.  I am on a 6MB DSL connection and started it last night before bed with 6 hours left.  Still going this morning saying something like 12 hours left.  I had to cancel it to go to work.  Will the launcher pick up where I left off?

I just did this download too - gonna try out EQ2, and i'm pretty excited.  Played EQ1 pretty seriously for a few years between launch and PoP, and off and on since then some too, so I hope this is a postive extension of that.  Vanguard and lotro are lame, and wow is boring, but I digress.  Anyway....

I just did this download, and it took me about 18 hours on cable modem.  Sounds like lots of folks are downing it about now, so that's prolly part of the problem.  As to the resetting 'time remaining' estimates; I had this too.  I'm *pretty* sure it's because the game is downloaded in chunks.  First the original game, then the first expansion, etc, and the timer resets for each piece of the puzzle.  At least, I know when my download was finally nearing the end, a bunch of the files started with "exp03_*", meaning it was all files from the third expansion.  So the times are pretty irrelevant, just pretend your computer is a ronco product - set it and forget it.  My timer reset at least 3 times, but I was asleep/at work for most of it, so not positive how often.

Yes.  It will checck to see what you have already, then download what you still need.

Same problem here...is there nowhere else to get these updates?  The download speed is terribly slow right now.

You are probably on a shared connection, or you have something on your computer (that you dont know about) sharing your connection and disk write speed.

Well I am almost finished downloading the Vanguard free special Everquest II deal.  I am up to 6.2 gigs of stuff.  I believe the full size is around 6.5 to 7gig.  Just be patient, I believe with the everyone trying to download this it is slowing it down. This morning I have been able to download 3 gig in about 2 hours, so going good now.  If the launcher suddenly goes from 5 hrs to 15 or 20, then you need to restart the patcher.  I have found it hangs and once you restart it works fine for a while. I have been running this morning on a 3 hours stretch with no hangs, so I figure there are less ppl downloading, or Sony has fixed the problem. Just be patient, can't wait to get in game though and see what has changed. Magirus40k

Just pushing cancel and download will restart the download. It is a bit stupid and opens a new connection for every [Removed for Content] file, and once in a while it will get a bad connecion, and go ridiculusly slow. Cancel Download SMILEY No need to restart the whole thing.

There is also optional content that you can download for EQ2...

go to Preferences on the patcher and click the optional content and the voicepacks and you will download more voiceovers and the starting city of neriak (if the game didnt already download all of this)
