What con mobs are you trying to hit?  You're chance to hit goes down dramatically the higher the mob is in relation to your level.  Also, get a high DR (damage rating) weapon that might help a little.  If all else fails look for +crushing / +slashing adornments or items.  The higher your skill is compared to the mobs you are fighting, the better chance you have to hit.

Also adding:   your crushing skill is maxed, but what level is the weapon compared to your skill?   If you are a new, low level character, sometimes the weapons are of minimum quality...even mastercrafted.

Also...and I know this sounds a bit obvious, but saying it anyway.  Make sure the skill you have maxed and are puzzling over is the skill the weapon needs.  A sword isn't going to do crushing damage, for example.  (I know, I know...just trying to troubleshoot the problem ::grin::SMILEY

My guess, though, is that you are fighting yellow con or higher mobs and are missing.  Without decent gear (which is hard to get at lower levels), you aren't going to be able to do it in Legendary Warden fashion, and might even be saying "W TF?  I thought Wardens were UBER!"   You just need to level and gear up a bit and you'll be good SMILEY

At level 26 you will get the first spell in the Instinct line. That line increases your melee skills. If you can afford it, make sure it's at least at Adept III.

at the time i was only around lvl 22ish using a lvl 22 MC staff, and guess it was just that lvl range or something, was going after blues and yellows, also dont know if it matters, but most my attacks were only app 1 or 2 at the time, the achievement ones that is, lvl 27 now and with that crushing buff spell now i see a huge change, can hit yellows without too much trouble.  but one thing i did notice, with the melee line i dont realy have any way to increase my damage as i lvl cause my attacks are pretty much always maxed out, question is with pvp in mind, is that a drawback? also noticed that in pvp my CA's go down in damage in pvp where as spells go up in damage? since when did this happen. i just started playing again. sory if i sound noob =P i played a 58 brig before. another problem i noticed is if i go against a decent wizard, i just have no chance, i barley even break their ward while trying to keep up with healing their damage, i got completly wiped out by a green wizard without even doing 10% of his health.

STR = Melee hit damage, at least for Auto Attack damage.  If you really want to melee then you need to up your STR to hit harder.

INT = More spell damage.

Not sure what to tell you about fighting the Wizard (I don't play on a PvP server) though the buffs we get are almost exclusively cold / heat... I can take out Wizards with little effort because I resist / mitigate their big hit enough to come at them swinging while they are scratching their heads wondering why I didn't bite it from their nuke.
