This is something I've wondered for a while.  Originally slash, pierce and crush mattered, then came fist and we were told that now it was the only skill that mattered.  Stances improve our slash, pierce and crush but not fist, brawler only weapons often buff these skills and other classes with attack buffs don't mention fist skill, leading me to believe that we are no longer based on fist only when using a fist weapon.

How is our attack calculated?  Fist only, S/P/C only, and average of fist and applicable S/P/C?  I know there used to be a lot of discussion about this, but I'm not sure where it all landed.  Surely our class specific weapons must be affected by our own offensive stances?

My understanding of the current mechanics: "Fist" skill is a class inherent skill designed for checking whether you can equip brawler fist weapons (or use bare fists effectively.)  It will always be maxed for your level, but has no effect other than allowing you to use fist weapons. Bare fists and most brawler only weapons will use your crushing skill to check for hit success (even if they do pierce or slash damage).  A few brawler weapons (Twin Calamities, etc.) use piercing or slashing to determine hit chance, but the majority use crushing.

The Twins use piercing and the rare one procs a piercing debuff.
