Hi!

I was wondering how many people scored item discoveries with the roll-out of the new zones, and what they discovered - so if you have made a discovery, please post it here!

I got some 10 to 15 server discoveries from the new quests in Darklight - but all my pride is the disco for the recipe for the Chocolate Chip Cookies of Seething Malice! SMILEY Too bad I forgot to make some afterwards... so the cookies themselves are now the pride of some lucky chef SMILEY

It said I found the baby owlbears on my server. It was quite an adventure as I was on a low character who was fighting aggro every step of the way, died twice while harvesting, ran back to the quest giver on my slow horse, made slower by aggro and effects tossed at me and screeched to a halt in front of quest giver 1.5 seconds before a high level, warg riding toon turned his in. I admit to the sin of glee on making it in in time. Not that i ahve anything against warg riding high level toons, it was just quite an experience SMILEY

Grats on that, IMO that's the sort of accomplishment where getting a discovery has meaning.

On the flip side of that is when someone runs around on a new server buying all the Apprentice II spells and other vendor 'junk', which just cheapens the discovery mechanic IMO.

I understand what you are saying Ael, and I agree to a certain point...

Discoveries obtained through making a purchase or crafting (I have more than a few crafting discoveries) are not the same thing as one that you get from a quest or out in a zone.  But as with a lot of the things in and about this game, it is all a highly personal relative set of issues.

I noticed that there is a very large group of folks who see discoveries as a race of sorts, and feel that it has a certain cache of status to it... Having just obtained my first world first I must admit that I can see how that might be an attractive notion, but I do agree with you that there is less glory associtated with certain methods of acquiring the discoveries.

Mys - I think it is awesome that you discovered the baby OB's on your server - they are so cool.  I like having them as pets in Nek - can you have them as pets in DLW?

Nel - Oooh, cookies! I'm in!  Still it is kind of cool that you both got a discovery from the same item...

Be well

Woah, hold on please, IMO buying all the vendor stuff for discoveries isn't on par with getting them from crafting in my book. The former just requires coin, the latter requires work, just like questing and adventuring.

KK but do you consider the discoveries you get crafting to be on the same level as the ones obtained in zones as part of play?  I am not trying to be offensive here, and as I have already said I have more than a few discoveries that I obtained crafting, but I do not consider them to be on par with the ones obtained in zones...  It seems to me that there is more of a race aspect to the discoveries in zones as part of play, whereas to a certain extent crafting discoveries are more a matter of luck than anything else...  I mean unless you are systematically going through the recipes *looking* for discoveries...

I was not trying to insult you, I am just saying that I think that the level of significance from lowest to highest goes something like bought discovery -> crafted discover -> quested discovery -> in-zone item discovery -> chest drop.

That is just how I see it and YMMV.

There is a quest in DLW to get a pet owlbear charm that let's you call forth a baby owlbear whenever you want. Originally it had 5 charges but when I went back the next day I noticed it had changed to unlimited.
