So, I have played alot of other MMO's, but this is the first time I have played EQ2 - and I decided to play an Illusionist.  My couple of questions are as followed: How good are Illusionists in the raiding situations?  Do they exclusively mez, are they viable in the DPS category, or are they just buff-bots?  I have been doing alot of reading, and I always hear people saying that they are one of the higher range DPS classes, but is that actually true, or is it just the select few that are decked out in superior gear?  I really like the class so far, and would hate to see it just sit back and buff in the end-game.  (Oh yeah, are they mainly wanted in raid situations?  And if so, are they generally overly-populated, or would I not have a difficult time finding a raiding guild later on?) Ok, so I have created a Fae Illusionist (Hope this is a decent choice?  Or does it not matter what race I pick?) and I am wondering what Racial Ability I should pick?  I was thinking the 3% to the power pool, but would the scribing ability be any good for us?  I am just unsure of which to pick. Now comes the tricky part - the AA's...  I have earned my first AA, and I really have no clue where to allocate it.  Just to let you know - I am building a char mainly for raiding situations... (as if you couldn't tell! SMILEY  as I really enjoy the end-game, and am trying to get there and contribute in some way. Also - this is kinda the obscure part - I created my char on Najena, and I don't know anybody, so, I guess my question for this part, is... is this a good server to be on?  :p Thanks for your time!

I am fairly new to this game myself, but this is what I know so far. The race only matters the first 20 levels but it is not a big differance, just play what race you like, but yes fae has a nice int start so your good to go anyways, I hear chanters are very much needed in raids and groups and they can solo harder mobs then other classes just slower. I hear there fun and verstile so just give it a shot you pretty much win either way, you can also look into conjurer if your really into pet classes and yes same thing for them except they solo a little faster but cannot solo harder mobs like illusionists can.

Server wise if your looking for a mature friendly server I suggest butcherblock thats where I am now and its a great experience, najena well its a pvp server and it will attract more pvp attitudes then anything.

The day I turned 70, the same exact day, not 30 minutes after turning 70, I received guild invites from the top 5 guilds on my server. They were desperate for an illusionist. There just aren't many of us around.

If you betray to coecer, then you get to be the MT group buff bot. Coercer buffs are much better for raiding overall, especially in the MT group. Illusionist buffs (EoF buffs) are fantastic for scout and/or caster groups. Two guilds asked me to betray to coercer, one of them insisted. I chose the guild that raided in my time zone, with the exact amount of raiding that I wanted to do, and that told me I could play either enchanter that I wanted. The point is that we are needed, and wanted, and can  get into any guild we chose simply by virtue of the lack of enchanters out there. About the only other class that is this wanted is the bard class.

After buffs are handed out, illusionists/coercers can parse out in the top 5 with a little work and some choice gear. So, you won't just be a buff bot if you don't want to be one. If you go afk during a raid, you are still helping with your power regen and buffs.

When you aren't raiding, you can be glad you rolled an enchanter considering that we are the best overall soloers in the game. When you are grouped, your groupmates will love your buffs and power regen. Not to mention that you will probably outparse 80% of the people in your group.

If you want to be a raid illusionst i would put AA's into these lines:

Enchanter tree:

Int line and Agi line. these will boost your dps big time

Illusionist tree:

Buff line that ends with illusory arm

Dps line that ends with Time compression

all the scouts and mages will love your for those end line buffs

Thats how i am set up and i do perty well on raids

Dulamar

Master Illusionst, Forsaken
