I run on an Athlon 1800, but when I ran EQ2 test it refused to let me play(after patching) stating that my processor speed was < 1000 MHz

If you Right-Click on My Computer  and goto Properties  under general  you will see it listed at <1ghz.  The problem is AMD's Cool-n-Quiet technology which slows the processor down to conserve when its not being fully used causing programs to misread the speed.  Most programs (eq2 included) will let you just continue on and AMD then releases the rest of the processor speed to accomidate EQ2.

Hope this helps SMILEY

Also affects my AthlonXP running at 2GHz, yet the game does run (not very well mind).

What is this 'Cool-n-Quiet' ?I have an AMD64 3000+ (Venice core) and I get no message about CPU speed, and the game runs fine.Perhaps disable this 'feature', if it is that?

In a nutshell, 'Cool and Quiet' is AMD's fancy way of slowing down your processor when you're not using it fully (like when you're just surfing the web for example). Whenever you fire up something that'll actually use the processor (any game for example), it fires back up to full power. The term comes from your processor running 'cool and quiet' when you're not using it.
Some games do have issues with this technology though (mainly MMOs it seems) and when it backfires, your character will appear to warp around the game world, as your processor (which the game uses for lots of timing issues) is constantly speeding up and slowing down.I haven't had any problems with it, so I keep it running on my dual-core AMD 64.
