Does damage rating get factored into skills at all?

No matter what weapon I use, the dmg the skills list stays the same. But I had heard in the past that this does factor in somehow to our skills(other than increasing DPS through normal non skill use melee). I am asking because I am trying to decide on getting a short bow with better stats but a lower damage rating, or a long bow with lesser stats but a higher damage rating. I only use the bow for my ranged skills(never auto ranged attack). If the damage rating doesn't factor in, the short bow would be the way to go, but I wanted to get some advice from someone more knowledgable.

Anyone clear this up for me?

Weapons do not effect combat art damage at all.  The damage rating is for auto attack melee damage only and the higher the number the more damage you obviously do.  The only way to improve your combat art damage is to either upgrade which has obvious benefits or to load up on strength gear which will have influence on how hard you hit for.

Thanks Khalysta, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
