Now that I am getting into my Assassin a lot more I have started to wonder about a few things and thought I would post to see if anyone has yet or has plans to run some tests (if anyone has found a good parser could you link it)...

Damage/Delay ratio: What is the softcap and hardcap (with haste)? For example; is using a 1.2 delay weapon a waste of time if you have spell haste and self buff when you could be using a 1.7 delay weapon for more dps and the same hardcapped swing time.

Pierce or Slash and their relation to Agi and Str: With my self buffs (+Agi) I have noticed that my Pierce skill is 2 points higher than my Slash skill. Is this because Pierce and Slash use damage tables (or skill bonus tables) derived from Agi and Str in different ways. This would certainly make a difference to how effectively different races or templates use different damage type weapons.

What stat modifiers or level modifiers (if any) affect swing time (important for hitting capped swing time).

Do styles use the same modifiers as standard swings to determine their damage. For example; if you use a one handed very slow weapon (2.7 delay) or a dual wield very fast weapon (1.2 delay) will you see vastly dissimilar damage hits or is this not as relevent as other factors like Agi, Str or Level.

My interest comes really from having played DAoC a ton before moving to this (I play most MMOs including EQ Live), these things really really matter in DAoC since without knowing your class inside out you will have a hard time winning most fights.

I picked an Assassin to be an effective melee DPS machine and to be as effective as I can I think knowing some of these dynamics will help SMILEY

You would have to do lots of log file parsing and experimenting to tell how things are affected and to find out if there are "soft" or "hard" caps built into the system.

Only strength plays a direct role in damage.  Agi plays some part by determining your overall power.  So if you are oop then your damage is nil but its strength that plays the big role in modifying a hit.

Swing time is just based on your weapons and mainly on the primary.

Overall a slow one hander will be less dps by design since its designed to be used with a shield that gives large AC boosts to a tank in trade for dps.  Two handers and dual wield of the same tier and quality are meant to be the same dps though.

what is the command to have the log sent off to a file? I'd like to try this. I too did a ton of parsing in DAOC and I was curious about the str/agi affecting damage. Thanks for clarifying STR in damage. But does STR just affect your min/max damage on regular attacks or also the max damage in special ability attacks? Or does AGI do that? Lots of questions...

Right now there is not a ton of differentiated gear, Basically I just get the best stuff I can. I am curious to find out if there is a soft cap on attack speed though.

Thanks for the replies SMILEY

At the moment I am just throwing around some ideas to try and get some kind of debate and hopefully some facts established. It is the finer details like this that really take away the pain of the grind for me SMILEY

Thanks for clarifiying the damage stats and swing times it all helps.

I am pretty confused with assassin dynamics also, but so far I always go for highest DPS, usualy daggers/stilletos steel or carbon with timers 1.2 or 1.4, I think to hit faster is betetr than to hit for moer damage but slower, ebcause i think blade furr works more often with fast hits so overal dps is higher? Also damage from combat arts seems to be deducted from DPS, so backstab with 2.4 high damage weapon woun't be always higher than 1.2 lower damage weapon. I think they calculate first damage per second for weapon, then do same for second weapon, add, and calculate ca SMILEY For example I do more damage with CA with my Assassin/dirge stilleto than steel tribal spears.
