How Poisons Work (2nd post in thread)

Hi All,

I've just recently come back from a leave of absence from EQ2 (seems to be a trend around here) and I'm playing an alt that I hadn't invested much time in while I was here before. My alt is now (after this weekend) a 31 ranger. I love it!! So much more fun than my high lvl warlock.

Back when I was concentrating on my warlock I had an in-game friend who was a great ranger. He used to brag about stacking poisons and which poisons to use. I didn't pay much attention as I was a worlock at the time - my response was that nothing beat MY poisons heh.

Now that I'm concentrating on ranger, I regret not paying closer attention. Could someone please explain which poisons stack? What are your favorite uses for poisons? How many do you carry with you? How often do you switch it up? etc.

I hope I didn't miss this explanation in a stickied post somewhere ...

With LU20, POISONS changed.

As things currently stand, Poisons come in 3 categories (recogniseable by their colour code).

RED

Caustic Poison - Direct Damage

Hemotoxin - Damage over Time

Mental Breach - Power Tap

Vitality Breach - Life Tap

CYAN

Ignorant Bliss - Deaggro

Turgur - Decrease Attack Speed

Fettering - Decrease Run Speed

PURPLE

Gracelessness - Melee Defense Debuff

Warding Ebb - Magical Defense Debuff

Enfeebling - Melee Attack Debuff

Cerebral Ebb - Magical Attack Debuff

You can stack 1 poison from each group with another group, but cannot stack poisons from the same group.

Also, potions stack on top of poisons, such as STAT buffs, Increase Crit % buff, Wards/Mitigations, Power/Health buffs.

All potions/poisons have their own prefix to identify their tier and legendary/treasured (rare) or common classification.

Common
T7 - Exceptional
T6 - Remarkable
T5 - Superior
T4 - Superb
T3 - Greater
T2 - ???
T1 - Lesser

Treasured (rare)
T7 - Grandmaster
T6 - Master
T5 - Apothecary
T4 - Workman
T3 - Journeyman
T2 - Apprentice
T1 - Neophyte

I carry a ton of poisons with me usually 1 stack of each debuff type, 1 stack of each utility type (the cyan colored ones) and then a few stacks of the damage ones. I rarely switch up poisons for specific encounters, only thing I do switch is vitality breach for caustic when soloing.

Be sure to become friends with a good aclhemist =)

It does, thank you. The impetus for this thread was the I bought a some superior caustic and some superior hemotoxin, stacks of 20 of each, hoping to stack them. Well, obviously that didn't work out, lol. I'm now thinking, though, that I can switch up those poisons based on what encounters I'm facing - one's a DoT, for heroic or epic mobs or soloing, and the other is a straight dmg poison, for burning down mobs quickly.

Now that I have all this info, though, I'm much better equipped SMILEY

Not scary at all. Poisons used to be MUCH more difficult to understand, between types, colors and how many you could stack. :smileyhappy: Gerdos summed it up very well.

Thanks a bunch, I have been applying caustic poison, then applying hemotoxin. The ganme allows you to do it but had no idea they were'nt stacking. You just saved me some coin
