Forgive me if this has already been addressed...

With the nerf to procs now, is their any advantage to having a dual wield over a onehanded of the same dps?

two dual wield, each with 15dps, vs one handed at 30 dps ?

Only with a one handed I can boost mitigation by possibly using a shield? Of course there is the stats that both dual wield items might have.

Opinions?

Yeah, I'd guess that using two proccing melee weapons will still generate more procs in melee combat than using one. Poisons will only proc off the main hand, but any other procs can still trigger off either hand. The 'nerf to procs' only changed the delay that the proc chance factored in (from the weapon delay to the CA delay), which significantly impacted proc rates with longbows. The D/W weapons are generally less than 2 seconds anyway, so I don't think you'll see melee proc rates change that drastically.

Personally, I'm still dual-wielding, and would only switch to a sword and board if I were tanking for a group, or soloing something where I needed to maximize my defense.

I may be the only ranger ive ever met that ever uses 1h/buckler on a regular basis, and it all started when i got urktl's bucker with the two procs +ranged, and + other stuff

i would hardly ever go dual wield after that just because i hardly ever melee, just stand back and let the bow do the work, i kind of looked at as them being nothing but stat buffers, except when soloing anyways, then they were usefull there too, didnt have to switch out or anything, worked good

now im 68 and its pretty rediculous to see a urktls buckler on my back, so i found the bulwark of the brave wich was pretty much double urtkles stats except it didnt have the +'s or the procs, i still miss it

it also came in handy when i tried to reply to a tell when i was  getting my pris 1 and had the 1 hander selected for me instead of getting my dual wielder and the GMs didnt give a [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn], have to find a silver lining in everything SMILEY

but i still use swordandboard and am pretty happy with it, altho with some of the 1handers ive seen i think that i might get better stats with a couple dual wielders for now than my sword and board, we will just have to see

Keep in mind, though, that comparable one-handers are *supposed* to be weaker than a pair of dual-wielders.  That is, for any given level and quality, the DWs will have a higher combined damage rating than the one-hander.  (I think they're supposed to do 33% more, but I'm not certain.)Of course, if you can find a better one-hander, or if you don't miss the loss of melee damage, go for it.  Hopefully once LU21 hits, we won't be meleeing as much any more.  SMILEY

With KoS I switched to sword and board.  Use the +20str shield from sanctum of the scaleborn (quest) and another 1h with +20 str.  Works well for all situations ive found, take a little less of a beating when soloing, the str on both keeps the bow CAs hitting nicely, etc.  Maybe ill switch back to dual with the new changes we will see but for now the 1h and shield is workin pretty nicely for me.

I am a diehard dual weilder here pump that damage out as fast as you can, To me the dmg ratings make up for the slightly lesser stats on a 1hs+buckler combo. Ya you cant tank as well but hell i basically tank like [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] to begin with no question there.

Taunt? [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] is that hippy [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]

I just tested this out today (solo), been lagging behind & first real chance I've had since the proc changes. I did far better overall without much difference in killing times with a tresured 1h (unimbued) & cheap (handcrafted) shield then I did with 2 imbued (legendary) dual weild weapons. The dual weapons did have those rare times when it was clearly much better damage, while at the same time those semi-common times when you take a very decent amount of damage happened 2-3+ more times as often dual weild. The tests got me to re-think my AP template. The only real time I can see using dual weapons now is in group settings where you are certain you won't get hit, even then you shouldn't be using your melee weapons & are likely much better off going with the extra armor provided by a shield.

I have always dual wielded until now. I tried a 1h and a shield and it has definitely helped me solo better. Thats what I will go with now on when I solo.

I am starting to agree with the OP here. I never used a sword/board until KoS came out. I finally found a shield worth having (Sanctum of Scaleborn quest) and I also use the 1h sword I found there Scalesplitter or something. I ahve been using these two when I solo and the downtime is alot less. I am meleeing much more with the changes in KoS and with the sword and board I am not taking as much damage. I am 64 and I was killing the 67^ ravasects for Grizzlefazzle Errands the other day with about 50% health left with sword/board combo. Using dual wields I was taken down to 10%-20%. So I am thinking dual wield in groups now and sword/board when soloing.

I tend to think for soloing that the sword and board is better also. However, I play on PVP server so the quicker weapons help with disrupting those nasty caster types.

I guess it all depends on the situation you are in.
