Well, I finally talked my friend to join me in eq2 since we are both fed up with wow. He played a hunter there and back in daoc he played a scout, basicly, he loves the class.Anyways, the thing is that he can barely use his bow when soloing due the mobs getting to him at once and evenso he has far better attacks as a melee than in range.I've been reading a bit about rangers but dont really get the touch of it. Are rangers a melee class with a decent range ability? or whats up?

![]() To tell you the truth, no one knows atm. They completely messed us up in the last update and have given no indication about their view on the result. So any reply to this question would be pure speculation. |

![]() In WoW the devs test class changes before they roll them out, and actually on occassion respond to customer feedback and change implementation before release if customer consensus suggests the devs may have gone awry. In EQ2, somebody at SOE has a bright idea on monday morning. It on the test server on Friday... which is to test for code that will take a server down, crash the client etc., it's obviously not for testing balance issues, as they have people that will pay them to test that... on the next Friday the "bright idea" is on the live servers.... 6 months later, after a broad consensus of the playerbase consistently tell SOE that said bright idea might actually have been an incredibly good idea, it gets rolled back. Have you played an SOE game before?... I'm thinking of going back and trying the new content in the WoW expansion myself. There's always DnD online to check out too. |

![]() This came straight from wikipedia.
Rangers tend to be skilled warriors with dark personalities. Often rangers are veterans of wars, or have lived in the woods their entire lives. They tend to be rather stoic, accepting what fate throws at them rather than rage against it. In many stories or games where elves exist, elves are (or would be) the best rangers due to their natural way of life. Rangers tend to be poor soldiers due to not often dealing with people. Their perception and cunning are better suited as a front-line leader (Lieutenant - Captain) or as a solo fighter against a small number (1-3) of fighters at a time. Rangers skills in books and games can include and are not limited to:

I played eq1 for a few years as a monk, therefor I play a monk here too. WoW is not a better game in any way. They are different and shouldnt be compared but the fact that all that wow is about is pure grind of factions and honor. In eq1 for example, you do grind, but you get AA at the same time. In wow, you get 0 until you reach exalted and then you get your reward, which will most likely suck cause it took you so long that way better items are now out. When the expansion gets here, i'll pick up my priest again (he's geared from top to toe with epics from mc and bwl, wont bother with aq) and bring to 70 just to try it out, but the game itself feels old and boring. The pvp in wow is non-existant as its all about battlegrounds, in eq2 world pvp is at its best and beats wow in any way cause of that reason. Now, I wont make this trhread that was about rangers into a eq2 vs wow but its hard not too

![]() My ranger is half/half - i can get most mobs (one v or no v) of same level near half their health bar with my bow (T3 legendary imbued) - except for few really fast enemies i can fire off two ranged CAs. then other half i can melee or i can use cheap shot, back off a bit and fire another ranged CA. Or i can kite with the autoattack which takes longer and consumes expensive arrows but when i want, i can in many instances use bow only - its just not the most effective way. My ranger is only lvl 28 now so it may change later on - considering the combat arts available on high levels, rangers still have many powerfull bow attacks. With the achievement abilities, you can even use point blank shot with a bow which stuns opponent giving you another chance to back off and use ranged CAs

Waht level is he? A ranger does not feel very rangery until about 28 when he gets several nice bow attacks. Until then his melee attacks are as powerful if not more so than the couple of bow attacks he has. Yes we were nerfed bad but at level 61, I ahve at least 10 bow attacks I can think of while I only have 4 melee attacks of worth. So the higher you get the more you will use your bow. At 63 I can take a mob entirely ranged doing what I've heard people on the forums call "Half Kiting". Basically hit the mob with a big hit then snare it. Stun, back up, shoot a CA. When stun breaks kite the mob with ranged AA till the stun recycles. Once it's back up stun, back peddle, Ranged CA. It's a pain if you ask me. I can also get away with a repeated stuns and the use of thorny trap, but you don't get thorny trap till 52. I dunno, right now the solo game is anoying to say the least. I've always hated kiting myself and never did it before this LU, now I feel like I have to to be able to solo at a decent rate. And that's against no arrow and down arrow mobs.
