My friend and I are creating a couple of alts for fun.  He's picked a troubador and loving it.  I'm still wrestling with my class choice.  I thought maybe sorceror but at lvl 12 it's a bit hairy because she's grabbing all the aggro.  So now I'm wondering about something like a fury. We do plan to pick up groups but I didn't want to be dependent on them for all our gameplay. Any suggestions on good duo combinations?

Well I think that anything can make a good duo with a Troubadour, simply because we are amazing. Aside from that, however, I think it all depends on what you mean by group-dependent. I mean, you'll be able to go around and kill things regardless of your class choice, but it depends on if there are things you want to be able to kill specifically (i.e. be able to kill even-con heroic encounters, yellow ^^^, etc.) or whatever else. I can say that duoing with a wizard can be a rather devastating duo, but (and this is a large but), I think this probably really only works at 50+. I only say this because this is the only level range I have a good deal of experience with, and that ice comet/lullaby is utterly amazing. But before this point you'd have to be careful about the wizard getting aggro and dying horribly (which still happens anyway, but, we don't talk about that...) I would think duoing with a healer/tank type class would make stronger encounters more survivable but, depending on which class specifically, (just thinking of the less offense-oriented ones, but I don't have enough experience duoing with them at lower levels to go into it), you may run the risk of not doing enough damage to things before you start running out of power. Though I think regardless of what you pick you can make a decent duo, and that charm (once he gets it) is invaluable for taking on groups of creature.

How about a Dirge?  Think of the buffs you would bring to the table!

Fury is a good choice because they are a more "offensive" healer (if such a thing exists).  A paladin is also a good choice because they can tank and heal occasionally.  A scout class isn't a bad choice, but you wouldn't be able to take down mobs that inflict a ton of physical damage unless you are REALLY patient.  Duoing with mage types after lvl 50 is quite effective as well.

The good thing about the troubador is that we can adapt to most any situation and have success.

A paladin is nice. I duo alot with a paladin since lvl 30. The extra buffs the troub gives to the paladin + the fact a paladin will proc aria also is a nice duo. We were able to duo heroics up to white con. We had some downtime in between. With an extra dps we were fine. Anyway troubs give so many buffs to other classes that it makes duoing very easy.

I find duoing with a wizard the best...

me and my guildie were doing mez nuke with his ice comit and ball of incineration.. mobs would die really fast without even moving, you just need to co-ordinate a bit

I duo with a Berserker mainly....  it is incredible the mobs we take out.  We have grouped from say level 20ish to 52ish... and I am constantly amazed by the amount of mobs we take down and how easily we can do it.  I believe the fact we both have had imbued Rare bp legs for each tier has helped as well as the rare weapons combos.  Though overall a very very rewrding experience.

I always preferred duoing with a paladin. They can heal and tank... two things us troubadors don't do quite as well. SMILEY

I would seriously consider a Dirge or another troubador. The big upside is agro management, A pulls, gets agro, B does a flanking attack...gets agro...A does a flanking attack...gets agro...rinse & repeat. Think about the traditional group, one aspect of winning an encounter is based upon the hp's of the tank + the amount of healing available. Two Bards that do about the same damage, with a bonus for flanking, can ping-pong the mob and double the amount of hp's they have in an encounter. Two troubs isn't as bad as you think, you can each have your self-buff up, while sharing the rest of the duties, we have enough buffs that you'll both still have full concentration, or you can save a concentration slot to use charm...or two charms! Everyone having stealth is a bonus....plus the extra evac never hurts. The best duo for a troub...is a duet! go bards!

The advantage of the Dirge/Troubadour duo over the Troubadour/Troubadour duo has to do with buff stacking.  The Dirge/Troubadour will get considerably better buff coverage.  Yes, at higher level a Troubadour/Troubadour group would have enough buffs that they could use the charms and still need 8 or 9 concentration slots, but the options in a Dirge/Troubadour include some very good buffs, where in the Troubadour/Troubadour you're looking at a few situational buffs that you may not really need.

Think about the procing that would be happening in a Dirge/Troubadour duo!
