So I was reading around on some other forums and someone made a post asking what the least played jobs were, well a couple people mentioned Brigands and I was shocked. I'm only like 24 or so Brig atm, but i'm having a blast both solo and in groups with a couple friends of mine. The fact that several people said that Brig was a low pop class still has me intrigued. So i'm wondering if i'm missing something at a higher level or something that makes Brigand not so great? I have no plans to stop playing my Brig anytime soon, but it still has me interested. So, am I missing something here that makes Brigand not so fun to play? Or is it just the whole "evil" thing going on?

Assassin is more appealing for standard evil players. If you don't want to play a bard, you have to choose assassin if you focus on slautering. Brigand sound like the average thug who steal some copper from wanderers. "Evil" players are more inclined to seek the easy path. And assassin is a frightful name. It's the same thing for the ranger/swashbuckler choice. Lord of the ring movies drives a lot of legolas wanabee, and life is easier behind a bow than in front line. Anyway, let them be, ignorance is the best protection for brigands. Dont brag about your usefulness, and Master 1 brigand spells prices will remain low. :p

I agree that the Assassin name does intrigue people moreso than the Brigand name.  We'd definitely be more played if we were called Ninjas ... which with our stealth, smuggle, poisons, debuffs, etc. would actually make a lot of sense, heh.  But it's more than just the class name.  Assassins do more damage.  Rangers get to deal damage from range.  Swashbucklers are the AoE kings.  If you want single target damage, most people go Assassin because it does more single target damage.  While Brigands are lotsa fun, I think I understand why they're one of the least played classes.  If you're worried that we'll level off and become [Removed for Content] ... nah, that's not really a concern.  Brigs play about the same from level 1 to level 70.  We're always a good but not the best DPS, we're always a strong debuffing class, and we're always full of utility.  On the PvP servers we're definitely not the least played.

Sadly Briggies went through a FoTM boom (at least on Najena) a while back which lead to me grouping with twink linker (the idiots who spam your group with their "uber" twink gear as soon as you join them but generally suck as players). This caused me to play my warden for about 3 motnhs since my guild needed a few more healers. Luckily, now the boom is over and most of the would be FoTM briggies have moved on to brawlers or necros or something. This makes me happy to be a pirate again.

Thanks for the responses, I had no intent to stop playing my brig (it is tooooooo [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] fun lol) but I was still interested in why some people were saying we were "the second least played class" in EQ. Now I know, well at least a little better hehe. Nice to know that Brig plays about the same from 1-70, though I hope that doesn't change much with the next LU, since iirc they were planing on nerfing the stuns and such a little.... I really do like Brig, especially that we get so many cool moves with extra debuffs, most of which are nice even for solo also. Add on poison and such and it's yummy.

Well, according to that EQ2 census website, Brigands are the least populated class in the game, at around 25,000 total. Most popular, iirc, was Wizard at over 90k.

Ok, went back and checked, and since the last time I was there, they've reported about 2k more...

so

Brigand is the least popular, at 27146

Coercer came in second at 27379

And Coercers are extremely fun to play (from level 23+ anyways) , but again, you have to know more about the game than just "press this key repeatedly to win"(I'm referring here to taunts, heals, and nukes, yes, for all you fighters, priests, and mages) SMILEY

Actually brigand is the least played all class overall with 28k against Wizards current 105k.
At PvP its slightly different with brigand being in the middle with 8k against Wizards 16k.

There is a mayor reason why Wizards and Assasins are at the top. (assassin only pvp, wizard overall) and that is NUKE DMG!
They can take down a foe fast, and that really fast. If well played. Rangers are at top since they are cowards. They just stand at the back shoting everything they can see. This is especially neat when following someone escaping from you. =/

I still find brigs very enjoyable =) And I can solo named heroics not that much below my lvl, take out groups etc without to much trouble. SMILEY

Brigands are the best-kept secret in the scout archetype, perhaps the game itself. Don't worry, I won't blow your cover.  SMILEY

Not usually a fan of forum humor, but gotta admit this line of post was really funny.  (Get in position for the back attacks already!  I can't distract the cat for much longer.)

I know this is a semi-old thread, however I had one of those “omg Brigand ROXZORS” moments today and thought I would share it with you. (Scroll to the bottom if you want to skip a LONG post/story as I pretty much summed it up down there, but it doesn’t tell a couple things the post/story would)

So, I’m sitting bored with nothing to do really and think about working on the AQ which I started ages ago and never finished… figure it should be pretty easy to solo most of as I’m a 29 brig with pretty decent gear including a couple (new system) steel imbued weapons, finished lightstone HQ (think greater is name) and Dwarven Work Boots among other pieces of armor. Slightly above average gear for someone who isn’t a twinked alt, but still not anything spectacular. Few bought spells, few starting spells… nothing really that big.

So, anyways, I get to work and finish killing the skeletons for the first part, mow through the thexian guys in FG for the second… get sent back to FG to go kill the undead guys deeper in for the third.

This is where it all starts. There was a 29 fury there who was LFG and asked if I wanted to group. So I tell her what I’m thinking of doing (mainly just messing around and pushing my soloing limits on the mobs for my AQ and anything else I can find) and she joins. Well I say I’d help her a bit with any quest she may have so we go on our way and kill our way up and mess around for a little. Well, up there we run into a 32 Wizard (pretty sure was wiz, coulda been lock but I’m going to call him a wizard for this since that sticks in my mind a bit more for some reason… though he did have this like rain of ice blocks and a couple other AE spells) who had a 25 necro friend and they wanted to go to the vault. Well, we had no other plans so we figured we go upstairs for a quest the fury had (still killing random mobs and trying to get some mobs for my long over-due AQ) then head down. So, we do.

Now, I’m being MT here… so I lead off and just keep going all out. We do pretty well until the fury has to go afk for like 5 minutes. Well, I smuggle, and we try to get someplace safe… keyword, try. Stupid “true sight” mob ran into us, we aggroed/linked a couple more… healer dies, necro dies, wiz and I barely live and get to a safe place.

While waiting for the fury and necro to come back, since no one had a feather to rez the fury when she came back from afk, we run into another (smaller and lower level) group consisting of a 24 Templar (99% sure on that unlike the wiz/lock lol) and a 30 monk. I THINK there may have been one more low 20s DD with them, but the monk and temp stick out in my mind since the monk followed us a little. Well, for some reason the temp drops over to our party (but not the monk, probably because of space issue and the possible other DD, so I’m still MT) and we all get together. Down we go, slaughtering everything in our way, me hardly ever loosing hate… though when I did it was normally to the wizard who was the highest level, and occasionally one mob in a group (or add) would go on the healer, but was often on a pet. I hit 30 a little before we reach the circle thingy like an arena where Quiora T’Las is.

So, we start clearing around, everything going semi-fine (temp didn’t respond for the LONGEST time and left healing only to the fury, which ran her outa power FAST… didn’t listen too well at times) even with an accidental add from the temp accidentally jumping down… We finally (though it was maybe only 15min) get to the first boss, Quiora T'Las. Uh-oh… 5 mobs, all level 27 (iirc, coulda been 26 or 28… but they were blue to me and I think 4 is when a mob stops being blue and goes green… could be different with heroics or I could be wrong) so I’m thinking this isn’t going to go too well. Well, we pull, and just flat out OWN her. Got some really nice drops including a couple books (I got a master 1, but it wasn’t one anyone in our group could use >_&ltSMILEY and a tome thingy iirc. We also get the item to go into “The Vault” and we do.

So, down into the vault we go… we almost have a slight problem with the temp not listening to directions and talking to the NPC to gain access to where Tseralith spawns… I don’t know if he got the quest or not (he complained about “more exp” for me then the group or something), but in the end it did work out and I finished it and we got in.

So, down in the vault, going through some blue con ^^^ bats like a hot knife through butter I find the skulls for the dragoons, and we kill them… Go back to the keeper, he tries to fight, but of course we win… and we go into the room with Tseralith.

Assured that he would be an easy fight (and stoked from our victory over Quiora T'Las) we forge on and proceed to kill him fairly easily. I even accidentally link his guards during the fight (hey I had to go all out to hold agro and I got a little too far behind him after a stun for the back-attack combo) yet we handle it all with ease… even if I did almost die at one point. (That sucker hit me with some uber spell or something I think)

Another couple books (again a master 1 went to me lol, and again no one in our group could use >_<; no one complained though and were thankful to me for being able to tank everything), know we got the scythe thingy (went to the fury) and I think we also got the wand. All in all a pretty nice run, especially with a Brigand tanking lol

Well, I still hadn’t finished my AQ so the fury says she’ll stay and help me finish that up, she still needed to finish a quest in there anyways too. So we basically go back to what we were doing before. We kill 2 more named mobs along with working on the quests… Shadowfang dropped me a nice new ring, then when we go up the waterfall we see some named spider, Vicathyra the Weaver I think. Killed her 2x total since the Fury forgot to do something up there the first time lol. Well, first time she drops a master chest (think that is the term) with a master 1, and a couple adept books! (Fury got those in case you were wondering, I’m not a loot hog despite what it may seem like with getting the two master 1s earlier) The second time she drops some legendary neck or something, so since I got the new ring I let the fury have that.

Well, during the second trek up there I realized 2 things…

1. I DIDN’T have poison on my weapons virtually the WHOLE time! Even when I was being the MT for the whole instance. It wore off sometime and I didn’t notice.(side note for those who are wondering how I couldn’t notice it wearing off, I’m having some trouble with my UI atm as seen here:http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=ui&message.id=13849So along with all the other buffs on me I couldn’t see the little poison icon gone, nor do I have the chat and combat logs separated so I can’t see any message about poison proc’ing or wearing… if anyone has some suggestion as to how to set-up like a separate chat window JUST for that please let me know)

2. I had a new Imbued Feyiron BP (imbue has a proc for a Heal over time if you didn’t know) waiting for me at 30. Slightly less mit (SMILEY then my current, but better stats and the imbue would have made a difference.

Pretty amazing that we did so well and I was able to hold hate even w/o the extra damage/hate (I assume poison gives a little hate since it is like a spell… could be wrong, but even so the extra damage woulda helped to end fights quicker so less strain on healers) and rarely lost it like I said above. Then add in the extra damage from better stats on the new BP I never wore and the HoT…

Anyways, we both finish our quests and we part ways. As I’m running out of the FG to the Nek Tower station to get to X-Roads to turn in all the FSRs I had slacked on I realized something else… (This is what really makes this story the “WOW Brig ROXZORS” imo)

All throughout the run I was thinking how nice it would be to have a taunt move… I even said a couple times “little hard to hold hate w/o a taunt” when I couldn’t get the mob off the wiz even with going all out from behind.I can imagine you all know what I realized…I DID have a taunt-type move… Cuss.

*clobbers self*So, the point of all this… [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] Brigand Rocks. Being able to hold hate almost as good as a fighter all without poison, forgetting to put on a better BP at 30 which was imbued and had better stats though 8 less mit, AND to top it all off totally forgetting about the taunt-type move Brigand gets… Man, what a night, and what a great class. Now, imagine how well that would have gone (and it went pretty [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] well anyways) if I had been able to remember that stuff.
