I read a post awhile back that says that swashies should kite mobs while soloing.  Maybe im thinking of the wrong thing but to me kiting always meant that you hit the mob with a stun/snare then back off and do damage from range.  I was under the impression that swashies only get 1 ranged CA and thats the throwing one.  How exactly do you kite mobs as a swashie?

Only reason why a Swashy should kite is if you are fighting an heroic^^^ and it will take forever before killing it.
Swashys have nearly all their CA's at melee range.
Depending on level you have access to some nice debuffs, and then you go with your stuns, backstab or the high damage CAs

Never had any problems in soloing and I got to 65 doing it.
Heroics and non heroics oranges require a good plan on your CA usage to get the max out of it, plus a certain degree of luck.
Later in levels with the AAs it becomes more easy, and if things get hairy there is always Evac.

Furthermore, since you are right and we have only 1 ranged CA, if kiting we will use a LOT of ammos, and if you want to do damage with them you have to buy the right Tier: this can get expensive at higher levels.

Kiting makes a very slight difference when soloing heroics, even if you have reach...it takes a lot of knowledge of when to use what skill and what to use in succession.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that ammo makes no difference that all the stats are on the weapon. There are no stats listed on the ammo. What am I missing here?

for me,  theres certain mobs you have to kite.  Like kettleleader griszhna or watever the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] his name is in nest.  For that I use all my ca's until im dropping under 20% pwr, then I turn off autoattack, mez, switch to fettering poision, impair, cheapshot, constrain and start kiting...i use a bow so it hits slower but harder and crits for more so no wasted ammo.  Also bows hit less so less chances to break the snare.

I don't need to kite the Kettleleader, myself. I just stack the big four buffs. Melee kiting with reach would be possible and probably make it an easier fight (after 3 of the big 4 buffs have run out of course).

I've never had much luck with kiting even way back when CA would process off a bow. Most of the time it just seemed that I'd get aggro from other mobs as I was trying to keep my distance form the mob I was attacking. And you do use way too much ammo.

I'll still kite on a limited basis if the mob is almost dead, and I'm almost dead but I think I can kill the mob before it kills me - more of a desperation tactic :smileytongue:

Kiting works fine if you control the area you are fighting in.
For example, I used to pull raptors that way.. You could always find spots that no mobs wandered into or were not near.

1. Sneak up
2. Hit all 3 backstabs
3. go through my CA run
4. mez
5. repeat steps 1 and 2
6. slow mob
7. Kite until mob dies.

Of course I don't care if i die anymore so now I just keep going through steps 1 - 5.. =)

You can't get off all three backstabs in the stun duration of sneak attack. You can only get off 2 unless you have Sailwind.

Technically you are right but it was sure fun when we able to a few GU's ago.

What I meant though is my opening attacks routine is Brazening, Plunder then Guile. While brazening is not positional it is dependant on you sneaking so its similar..

I suggest you go Guile then Plunder, that way Plunder hits for more due to the mit debuff on Guile.
