Captain Prefix... can we obtain it?

Recently I was looking through the available prefixes and saw that the Buccaneers in FP give out the Captain prefix for having high enough faction with them. I was wondering if as a swashbuckler we could sneak into FP and grab their writs, and still obtain the title. Are they indifferent or do they hate us? I know the Freeport Guard isnt KoS...

1) The FP guard do indeed hate us & will be KoS. This can be worked around, however.

2) The NPCs won't talk to us. This can't be worked around so much. :/

You could betray to brig, earn the title, then betray back -- but iirc you lose faction titles when you betray (I could be wrong on this, I just think I have read it somewhere). Even if you can keep the title that way, it'd be a lot of work AND cost you any adepts or masters.

I suppose if someone was really committed to getting the title (& if the titles last through a betrayal) then you could do it at an early level when you might not have invested so much into masters, but at 68 w/ nearly half of my endgame masters already purchased.... *sigh* SMILEY

If i were the first... it would be worth it. But it may be more practical to start a brigand, do it at a low level, then betray to swashie. 58 levels isnt that much...... eh? Anyways I'll check it out and see if you lose titles when you betray, also I will see if there is some workaround for the nps being aloof! And i was talking about the Freeport Guard faction, actual freeport guards are kos to us of course SMILEY

Yeah. I have enough faction to buy my [Removed for Content] captain title, but the NPC won't sell to me -_-

if I have done enough work for a bunch of pirates, you would think PIRATES of all things wouldn't mind freebooting me a Captain title.... Guess I'll just stick with Sir Leithe the Treasure Hunter for now SMILEY

Yes you can betray, get the title, and then betray back anf still keep the title. Titles are hard coded to your character and cant be removed. Its why those of us who got the ',Hunter of Vampires' PREfix title back while it was bugged as a prefix title instead of a suffix still have it after they fixed it. Whether its worth the work to get is up to you though.

Meh, depends on the conditions of your character when you betray. If you've got a lot of plat invested in Masters, then yeah -- it'd suck. Just going through the steps, though, is super easy; I just took a ranger over to FP this weekend & it was only about 4 hours total effort. Grinding the writs would be a lot harder than that.

Honestly, knowing that it's possible to keep the titles -- I'm tempted even with the plat I've got in Masters. Hrm. Will definitely have to make a decision soon, though; the last 2 levels have some very pricey Masters on CB.

So how many writs would it take to get Captain, anyway? Oh, & what are the solo FP scout writs available to a 68?

You need 40,000 faction (ally) for the captain title. You get 150 faction from t7 writs. So 267 writs...

As cool as Captain Alistair would sound, I'd rather not lose my masters.

Oh good grief. I could (probably) handle buying the masters again, but 267 writs -- even at 1/hour that'd be over 10 /played days. Eep! :smileysurprised:

If you started over as a brigand and soloed them the level 10 writs give 150 faction and are completable in 15 minutes (including travel time from and to the quest guy) ....2.8 days played for captain title on a newbie character............ almost worth it sadly, i may actually start today. Anyone have a suggestion for race?

I personally do NOT think the title is worth bothering over.

It doesnt affect how your character is played.

Pretty sure it was:10,000 for Mariner20,000 for Marauder30,000 for Corsair40,000 for CaptainI betrayed a High Elf to Brigand for the titles (with the intent on betraying back to swashy).... but I learned a valuable lesson. I will not name any of my toons the same name with a variant in spelling anymore. Got hammered one night and deleted the wrong toon because I mixed the toons up while deleting him. Sad part is, I was almost there with a level locked 18 Brigand sporting the Corsair title. To this day I still do not want to see another vulrich (from the writ I was repeating)...

Trust me, when you do that many writs in a row on the same mob... it is mind numbing. After getting Corsair, I wouldn't have kept grinding :p

Ahh. I see they finally fixed it, then. When my brigand bought it, both corssair and captain were 30,000.
