Swashy vs Brig?

Heya, I haven't played in a little over a year now and will be coming back to the game with a friend or two. Our plan is to play a PvP server and I'm looking to play a swashy or brig, but don't know the main differences between the classes. I'll likely be playing mostly with a guardian and/or SK, if that helps any.Thanks for any input/advice in advance![Edit] Suppose I could have asked this over in the newbie forum... can't find the post lock/delete button so I guess I'll check this thread too SMILEY

Swash gets a 15 sec mez/stun, Brigands get a handful of stuns.

Truthfully I think it's much of a muchness.... Brigands might well have an edge in PvP with stuns and ruse, but it's marginal I think and maybe not even there if your PvP is with a group.

How about dps and stealth, pretty much neck-in-neck? Are either more positional-style reliant?

My Brigand is only level 43 and my Swashbuckler only level 29, so I'm not exectly well qualified, or certainly not as well qualified as some who might chime in... so take what I have to say with a pinch of salt.

The Brigand has more positional attacks from back or flank. However because the Brigand has so many such attacks you can actually just stay behind the mob and deliver all you attacks bar one.... On the Swashbuckler I find I have to switch between back and front, so it's actualy easier in groups with the Brigand.... solo the brigand has enough stuns to be able to deliver all his positional attacks, even on heroics.

Solo is easier with the Brigand, but in groups I definately feel (note: no parse, could be point blank wrong) as if the Swashie is delivering more damage, and I haven't got all his lines yet... solo the Brigand delivers more damage as Ruse is easier to use solo which is a lot like setting a bomb off in a mobs face.

Tanking is much easier with the Brigand because all those stuns are [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] good mitigation.

I realy like the fact that my Swashbuckler can debuff physical mitigation on 2 CAs already. Everybody is aware of the large Brigand debuffs but they tend to ignore when they get those debuffs their duration and recast... Brigands don't get to debuff physical mitigation until much later, and solo physical mitigation debuffing is very useful whereas magic/divine etc isn't... also they're on frequently used reasonably fast recast skills.... Brigands do get some huge debuffs later on and even in mid levels if you're working well with casters and have a good pattern laid down you will reap better results of the Brigand debuffs, but I feel in regular hectic play you're likely to gain more out of Swashie debuffs in most group play.

Swashbucklers can tend to be a bit spammy. Their recast timers are faster than Brigands so you're always hitting buttons... this means you always have something to do, but sometimes can feel like you're just mashing buttons as they light up... inversely, you'll never be stuck for something to do mid fight with a Swashie, although the Brigand feels a bit more deliberate. I also find a stun, ward, taunt, stun better at rescuing casters with my Brigand than a mez.... But managing HOs is easier on a Swashbuckler by far.

Stealth is the same for both.

Now the last bit is purely my opinion and is a value judgement that some others will differ with... the Brigand feels like a more traditional Rogue stylewise, with his positional attacks and stuns... the Swashbuckler feels like a reckless flashy swordsman.... both are heaps of fun. I don't think you can go wrong with either and you should really choose on the basis of race/city/concept.

I've not thought about much of this, it's all quite fuzzy, just trying to create impressions for you rather than any definative truth.

I will level up both my Rogues. Both are very fun. And both feel quite different.... with AAs it'll give me a chance to create more difference between them.

Not meaning to be rude, but the Search function is your friend. There have been dozens of threads addressing exactly this topic over the last couple of months. There are some great comparison threads in this forum if you check ... I'd dig them out but it's 3am after a raid and I'm about ready to pass out. Will see if I can't find the "old favourite" comparisons later.

Oh, I did do a search, but the old threads don't have any info concerning PvP comparisons nor the newer ability changes taken into account (old threads after all). Got all the info I needed though SMILEY

Ah sorry, didn't see the reference to PVP. To be honest, noone outside of beta PVP really knows how any class will turn out in PVP, because most skills (as I understand it) will work differently to PVE servers. You can make a good guess based on PVE skills but that's about all, hehe. SMILEY
