Since the Far Seas Trading Company handles the trade by proxy between Qeynos, Freeport, Shin, Maj'Dul, and likely Faydwer soon. I was wondering about a few things: Do they have competition (other then Pirates and Privateers) Where do they take their Liberty the most? Do "evil" races have problems in good cities and vice versa? What is their likely take on the returning godlings? Do they plan to expand the trade towns past dock size in TS and Nek to and actively recruit new mariners? Also what is the Lore appearance of the TS and Nek Docks? The TS onle looks easy enough as a city on the sea on multiplel connecting docks, but what about Nek's docks, it looks like Thexian construction but as far as I know the shattering happened after Thexians were cut off from True Neriak. So who built it? Mostly looking for a new interesting topic.

![]() So many questions that just cannot be answered from what is known in the game. I would certainly hope that there is another company other than pirates and privateers who are delivering goods to and from places. All the cities aknowledge the FSTC as a "Neutral" company, but being the only one gives them an incentive to monopolize the trade. Set any price they want. Hmmm... You know that would be a pretty cool incentive to add something new to the game. Instead of being forced to choose Qeynos, Kelethin, or Freeport, it would be nice if players could live strictly as a seafarer for the Far Seas Trading Company. Yeah I had to come up with stuff quickly, I was originally typing a post on how trade went down between two cities at cold war(hot war in PvP) but halfway though I fianally remembered that the Far Seas Trading Company existed. They tend to decrease in importance as you level. LOL Most of the newbies propbably don't know Ingrid as anything other then the Captain in the FS section of town near Shin. They need mor boats at the docks in Qeynos Harbor/East Freeport(like they have in South Freeport)/TS/SS/Nek/Shin.

![]() You may have noticed the decidedly Teir'Dal construction of the docks in Nektulos, and the fact that the beach is named after the former king, helps encourage this. Doing the access quest for Cauldron Hollow, you learn that it was a supply depot...near the shores of Lake Neriuss. Lake Neriuss was a resivoir for Neriak, and patrolled and guarded as such. I wouldn't be surprised if the Lake disappeared during the Rending, becoming ocean, as parts of the Misty Thicket, Kithicor Woods, and other surrounding areas were lost to the seas. Now the dock that once served to ferry goods around Lake Neriuss by the Teir'Dal Empire...serves the Far Seas Trading Company as the ferry goods and people all over the world. This is, for the most part speculation, in regards to origins of the dock. But the location is close to were the Lake would have been. Lake Neriuss is one of the many places on the Everquest maps that never made it into the game (at least it wasn't in there put in there before EQ2 went live). Because of its proximity to Halfling lands, you can easily see how there would have been constant scuffles between the two. The lake probably fed the underground waterways of Neriak, and was a mean of infiltration by deputies and sherifs who could hold their breath long enough to slip inside the city walls (how else do you think you got those guys swimming aorund in Neriak Commons outside the Blind Fish?)

Interesting, however I do wonder if there is more then just the Nektlos Dock lore-wise. For the Thundering Steppes you can esaily imagine a small town all on interconnecting docks with houses businesses and administrative buildings along with the everpresent tavenrs that such a place would more then likely have. Of course they would have to have a stockade-type defense around the docks to keep out the Neriuus Pirates.

![]() Aren't the crates you quest for in Zek from the Far Windstomper? Isn't that a company or is that a ship? I don't remember. I really wanna say it was a ship. I'm pretty sure FSTC is monopolizing on trade and such. unless you count the orc trade routes along with the pirates... |

If the shore is indeed the remains of what was once lake neriuss, then there would indeed have been a dock on it. While this assertion would be speculation coming from an EQlive background, it would be known fact coming from EQOA. Lake Neriuss was due west at the far end of the Nek Forest and was the site of the Teir'dal outpost, Fort Seriak. The Fort was built near the eastern shore of the lake and as such, it was equipped with a dock. At the center of the lake, which btw was a fairly large lake (spanned most of the zone), was the undead island of Castle Felstar. The western shores of the lake were patrolled by the resident Hatebone clan of orcs. The northern shores were the home to Pirates/vandals. Past the southern shores of the lake was the foot of the mountain range that would open up into a large plain known as the Green rift. West of the plain (southside of the mountain range) would lead into Kithicor forest. The lake was not actually close to halfling lands in that it would be a trip through kithicor into the open plains, then up and around the mountain to backtrack to the lake. The fort and adjacent dock was established to spy on the elflands to the west. |

![]() From what I can guess I imagine the Far Seas Trading Company is handled much like any other 'real' company, with departmental branches for different areas and cities. The 'head' office is probably located at what used to be Highkeep, but by nature it would require a decentralized setup for the company to effectively make decisions for local trade. Obviously each branch would probably have to have a certain degree of loyalty to its home area. (I've always RPed my character as the sons of officials in the Qeynos branch.) I have noticed that it seems slightly more attached to Qeynos than it does to Freeport- probably due to Freeport's indirect sponsorship of piracy and the totalitarian law codes it has enacted. The Far Seas also seems a highly cosmopolitan organization, with dark and light races joining together for mutual gain, abandoning their racial animosities. This is probably due to the company's origin as coming together from scattered mariners and traders. Overall it appears to be a fairly benign and even beneficial corporation. |
