I was pondering this today.

It has been approx 500 years from EQLive.  many changes on Norrath have occurred and among them were The Erudites.
In EQLive, They were very human in appearance.  The only difference was thier oblong heads and large forehead area.
In that time many, if not all Erudites, wore head coverings.  Whether this was for style, religion, or both is unknown to me.

I would appreciate a response on What they wore, Why they wore head coverings, and Why they no longer wear them.  If this is/was for a religious purpose, are the going to return to that style once cloaks are added in EoF and the gods return? (this head covering being optional of course)  Is that why most Erudites have runes?, to replace the Head covering?

well i don't know much about the reasons in EQlive at all..but i know that as far as eq2 goes, erudites have the runes on their heads/faces now due to them tampering with magics to powerfull for them to be able to handle(or something like that) that caused a major shift in their races appearance.

i know the runes are magical in origin, but it isnt a result of tampering as they/you can be selected and customized.  which would lead me to believe that they are an Erudite's option, like Barb woads or Wood Elf shrouds.

I would think that they would relate to thier dieties, but they may just be a personal choice.

you can choose to have them or not, this is true..but i remember reading in one of the ingame lore books that the entire reason the runes exist is due to magical tampering.

Also you'll notice that certain npc's in the starter towns will comment something about what happened to your race..blah blah blah..but those runes sure look cool, or something of that nature(something you hear when you are running around if you are an erudite)

They pretty much chose to get rid of thier cultural fashion sense when the entire race had been changed into what they are today. Not to mention the cataclysms and everything.... well.. if you were hauled out of the ocean by a ship and dont recall anything from your life before that moment, would you remember your culture's native fashions?

The barbarians sure dont.

You should also notice that almost all cultural fashion has gone out the window.  Wood Elves used to have leaves and such engraves in their armor, Teir'Dal usually had skulls somewhere on theirs.  Barbarians wore kilts, now...all clothes are the same.  Unfortunately, I don't think there is much of a lore reason for the them not wearing head coverings (although my erudite always wears his hood unless he's making spells).  The biggest reason they don't have head coverings, or unique fashion...is because of game mechanics SMILEY

I still would like to know why they had them and why now they don't.

I really wish I could get a comment on this from Vhalen.  At least as to why they wore them (head coverings)  in the first place.

Maybe its because its a hot jungle climate where the Erudites used to live, and now they live in a temperate climate in Qeynos and Freeport.

As I said. If you were pulled out of the water with no past memory of what happened before that moment, would you remember your fashion statements too?

But what I want to know is, if thier coverings were truely style over substance.  that is why i want to know if the runes replace the covering.  If the coverings were worn for a reason why were/are they no longer worn?  you don't just get pulled on a ship and move and Everyone just happens to not be wearing something that is of racial custom.  The Erudites evolved, thier religion may have been lost, perhaps that is why thier iconic cover was eliminated.  Perhaps the runes did or didn't replace the covering.  this is what I want to find out.  I want to know the WHY, the WHAT happened, and the WHEN did it happen.   Perhaps what you said is true and it is just coincidence that everyone left thier customs behind.  perhaps they tried to assimilate to the human style.  I want to know instead of just getting speculation.

The erudite headgear was ceremonial and ornamental for the most part. But the erudites of old are gone. A racial transformation has occurred and the erudites underwent a journey that has yet to be told. The mysteries surrounding the transformation will be solved. Such secrets cannot stay sealed forever. These secrets of the erudite transformation will help you understand why certain rituals and beliefs of the erudites no longer hold any significance after their seeming evolution. Unfortunately for all, the only minds that hold the memories of the erudite journey of transformation were located on the lost island continent of Odus.

This means odus will be back and they already have an outline for the expansion. Probably not set plan but atleast an outline of what content needs to be in for lore purposes
