The fear line seems to have very limited use to me so far.  I have used it as an "oh crap" power a few times in PvP and PvE, but usually forget about it (it would be much more useful with a shorter recast).  Or when I do remember it, I am conserving power to get another ward off instead of the fear. Are other defilers using this line on a regular basis? and how are you using it strategically?

I actually use this quite a bit.. (Less so now with the longer recast). but I used to use it for CC when fighting in a dungeon.. It's a great way of taking an extra mob out of the fight for a bit.. when they're fear'd they're not hitting whoever they were pounding on (usually me).. I started using it shortly after LU13, and I've found it more and more useful when we get that unexpected add, and don't have anyone else with CC in the group.. it's usually just enough time for us to burn down whatever we're fighting before it gets back to camp.

Do the feared mobs social-aggro as they run?  (Especially considering the "new" aggro system)

I'm not sure with the new system, but Fear in EQ2 is not the same as Fear was in EQ1. I have fear'd many mobs in social places, and they NEVER bring friends back with them.. I'll have to test with the new changes tonight, but I don't believe they would change how this has worked..

The problem I have had using it in dungeons is that if you are too close to another encounter, that encounter takes the fear and aggroes as well. I am usually really careful about it being a soloer and all, but have had stuff repop behind me and it catch aggro when using this spell a few times.

I think you're talking about the True AE Detaunt Fear Mac.. we're talking about the single target (Terror Line) Fear.. well.. I am anyways.. Single target fearing a mob away will not bring buddies.

Ah...I don't think I have that line yet...I only have the AE fear, I didn't even know we got a single target one later.

I apologize, I should have been more specific.  I was referring to the AoE fear-line, but the information provided for both lines helps.So...AoE Fear - will aggro other mobsSingle Target Fear - doesn't aggro additional mobsThanks for the feedback.

I would not state it that way as it implies something that is false. The "Fear" effect, from whatever source, has thus far never caused the aggro of any other mob, no matter where it causes the mob to run.Point-Blank Area Effect spells will ALWAYS affect and therefore aggro mobs nearby as that is the intended way these spells function. The fact of the matter is that our de-aggro line is a PBAE is why it aggros other mobs - the "Fear" effect on the line is incidental and not the cause of the aggro.

As for using the AE de-aggro...I believe that a good player is always aware of his surroundings (sure, repops can catch you by surprise, but if your own group killed those repops last time, that's no excuse either).  Thus, whether you can use PBAEs or not should be something you are always aware of.  The spell has two primary functions: first, it deaggros - which Shamans desperately need; secondly, it fears - giving the Shaman valuable time to Ward and debuff.  It is also incredibly powerful against Swarm-pet classes in PvP for obvious reasons.

Similar to a root/mez/stun pull, you could pull an encounter by single fearing one of the mobs in the encounter.  mob is out of it for 12 seconds.  as with all non-tank pulls, it requires some coordination.  it's good for adds too.

Its a great PvP tool, (solo fear), get rid of a conjurers pet for 12 seconds, charge something one way, run the other, fear people off cliffs etc etc.
