![]() Greetings all! I thought I would start in the Templar board since this is the class I believe would be most proficient for my needs. I figured it never hurts to ask the experts!:smileyhappy: I am primarily into the crafting aspect of the game and am looking for a healing class to be my Provisioner. However, I do like to use my specific crafting toons to gather their own resources thus sort of leveling the combat, as well. Crafting and resource gathering is a solitary life so I am looking for a good solo type healer. I reasoned that with the opportunity to wear heavy armor and carry a shield, a Templar could hold their own whilst picking coffee beans! I like the role playing aspect of the healer being a Provisioner......providing heals and food/drink for recovery to his/her comrades. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ![]() If you want a healer that has great heals, has great DPS, has great buffs, has great ultiltity...play a fury. Fury = jack of all trades master of them all. :smileyindifferent: But if you want a class to sit in front of the stove all the time then Templar probally would be a good class since we seem to get bent over every patch. :smileyvery-happy: Message Edited by Kizee on 12-21-2005 05:59 AM |

A templar is great. You will be able to pretty much gather without fear because it will take forever for anything to kill you.

Honestly, I wouldn't pick any healer for the job of harvesting and solo-ing out in the world. I would probably go mage or scout. They all get an invis, which imo is the most valuable thing you can have for harvesting in a dangerous place. Not only that but when you get jumped, a Mage/Scout can take down the mob much faster. But if you are set on being the healer / provisioner, I don't think I would advise Templar as the first choice. I speak from experience, as I leveled my Main and my Alt provisioner to 60 simultaneously, with my Temp doing the harvesting. It wasn't difficult really, but killing takes a very long time and often times, even pre- LU 13, I would just run off the aggro then return to the shrub. Even on low green mobs. That doesn't exactly add to the feeling of being a hero, running away from beetles all the time, but it reduces monotonous, protracted fights with very little reward. Granted you could focus your upgrades toward the damage spells, and Int gear, but that still won't make you a damage king. Templar is a great class, and you could withstand a serious beating, but not the most optimum for the job you are looking for.

![]() Thanks for all the great responses guys and gals. I truly appreciate it! What I have gathered, Templar is probably not the best solo healing class but it is viable. I have noticed some other threads where it "appears" they are not one of the more viable healers in the higher tier gameplay, which concerns me, as well. I must admit, the Heavy armor is appealing to me. I'm an old school D&D player and am use to Clerics plaid in something other than cloth. In all honestly, I am not looking to be uber with this toon but I do wish to be useful once I am done leveling Provisioner and want to play the toon as a healer in group settings. Maybe I am asking for too much? A good group class that is highly viable to solo? I'm not sure, being so new to the game. I don't want to sound like I want my cake and eat it too....just trying to learn!

You'd probably be better off reading the different forums to get answers. The are plenty of threads in this one and the Inquisitor, the 2 druids, and the 2 shaman forums to help you make a decision. In all honesty, the question you are asking is answered about 100 times in each forum - if you take the time to look. This forum alone on the second page has a few threads on Templar soloing (or lack thereof). As for comparing D&D to EQ2.....not even in the same boat concerning classes.

![]() A Templar is a good harvester . 1. Hard to kill 2. Soothe line of spells is great for harvesting on the downside dont bother soloing anything while harvesting it take too long . You can run the MoB off much quicker than you can kill it .

![]() Thanks again......I will heed the advice given above as well as do some more reading!
I will say, when it comes to educational information and sound advice, EQ2 players are the best! Thanks for your time!

![]() OOC. I'll chime in here as well. As others have said, for soloing, the priest classes are really not the best options to begin with. Choosing a class with invisibility early on would really help with harvesting as well. However, if your heart is set on a priest class, in terms of comparative solo power, the Templar is the worst option you could choose. Your best option at the time of writing would be one of the druid classes, in my opinion. In terms of harvesting, the only priest with built-in invisibility is Fury, but that is only after level 45. It must be said, as one person did already, that clerics do get Soothe very early on, and whilst not as good as Invis, it is very useful indeed for harvesting. You have all the information. In the end, choose the class you think you will enjoy, as that is what matters most, and it is entirely subjective.

I can't admit to having played every class in the game, especially not to a high level, but if you're looking for a class that will complement soloing/ harvesting, the very best (to my experience) would be a summoner- as they have a pet to tank as well as high dps. They also have invis for moving around tricky areas. Although, heart set on a priest, shaman and druids have SoW, which would allow them to run off agroed mobs (once yelled for the runspeed of course). Clerics do have Soothe, but it has a 10 sec recast time, and can only be used on one mob, hence best for low populated areas.

![]() Scouts are best for harvesting in my opinion. Run speed increase early on...sneak almost right away...most get snares and other means of escape relatively early on as well.

Another word on Soothe, unless it has been changed it only reduces aggro radius, doesn't completely make the mob non aggro. So if it gets close enough it will still try to kill you.
