What is the role (in a Group and/or Raid) of the Necromancer?I get slightly conflicting answers to this question and I'm hoping by coming to the forums I can resolve this question. Or maybe I'll just walk away more confused.

for raidingDPS, handing out hearts and rezzing when the dirges or pallys can't.Though technically we arent T1 DPS (from what ive read) We are usually at the top of the DPS parse with Assassins and Wizards ( from 1500 to 3000 dps depending on the fight). Our Hearts are usually in demand for longer fights so i hand them out before and during the raid. And lastly I rez when the Dirge and pallys die or when a healer goes down, and Feign Death and Rezzing after a wipe.Grouping is more of the same basically.

![]() That's what I have come to understand as well. As for not being T1 DPS, I am almost always at the top of the list when combining my DPS w/ my pet's on the parse.I found that I'm a heart distributor, secondary healer, and a major damage dealer. To be honest, I feel like Necro is a "jack of all trades and a master of none" type class.Thanx for your reply, btw. |

![]() Well, that is a very difficult question to answer. But we don't fit into just one role - ever, but if we do one thing more than any other it is simply DPS.

![]() Mooreguard has posted he regretted the hint of "tiers" there are no official tiers and if we were in the wrong tier we surly would have been nerfed appropriately. As I have stated before we are geared for certain fights, those fights are LONG fights which is what named epics end up being so naturally we do end up on top but in group or small heroics we have trouble getting enough casted to make a parse.

I rez when needed, though we have the worst rez so its best to let the dirges and pallys rez before us. I give hearts as needed for power regen. I heal as needed, if someone needs a topping off, or the healers have gotten behind the curve, just hitting a heal or two or tossing unstoppable soul on the tank helps a great deal. I pet pull sometimes if the mob has a large alpha strike and let the pet eat it up. We are many times called to FD in the case of a wipe so you can get the healers rezzed and the raid moving again. Give pullers see invis in places like Deathtoll. Overall we have a lot of roles and things to do which makes our job never really boring on raids or in groups.

![]() Necros CAN be T1 DPS, if we sacrifice security from a tank pet, We can also be closer to T3 DPS if we hunker down with a pet in defensive and the summer plays healer/debuffer. Necros are just designed to be a flexible class. But in general we're not beating a Wizard on a DPS parse for your avg group mobs. They generat better burst and instant damage than we do. We're marathon runners, they're sprinters. The DPS Tiers that some peple posted a LONG time ago never addressed this difference in overall damage types. Now, in Raids where pets are welcome... (Some raids can not allow normal un AoE protected pets)... We're long term DPS. We also keep the raid powered by keeping hearts available. In raids, much of our normal CC and other uses are not applicable. But this holds true for other classes as well, thats just how it is. On Raids, Necros also provide pulling assistance in certain cases... We're better at this than conj becasue we can control when we break agro better. If you see a herd of mobs coming instead of the few you wanted... FD works wonders. Necros also get a long ranged rez.... Now this used to be the case, but maybe this has changed, but necros get the largest rez range distance, even better than all priest classes. This has its advantages esp when ppl die away from the herd.

Necro's have a lot of options when it comes to raiding, most of which have been said already. Primary being dps, I also assist with heals on a regular basis, rez, give out hearts, feign when we wipe to rez a healer, and pet pull. There's a lot we can do. And about our rezzing aggro range, yes it's big, I actually had to rez a raid member who died way up a wall trying to climb away and escape

I prefer a kaiser roll in groups and dinner roll on raids.

Necros have a very large role to play when it comes to raiding. Grouping is too simple, and there's usually not enough time to worry about most of what I'm listing. But in raids, you have to be on top of it all the time. Our necros are usually on the top couple spots in every parse, considering the encounter isn't one of those that need special handling. Most everything you have is a DOT, save your lifetap and debuffs. Here are most of the things I go through in a single raid.1. DPS - We're the best, given all our dots, pets, etc. I've parsed up to 5k before with a large mass of easy mobs, but on average, I run about 1800 per encounter if I'm really on it like I should be.2. Debuff - We have HUGE debuffs for four stats and every little bit counts in a raid. Also, get your Swarm of Bats Adept III and use it before you debuff. Also use Dispel Magic. It can help sometimes, too. I don't know about that debuff pet, as I haven't tried it.3. Pet Pulls - If there isn't a Conj available (due to alignment or if exiled/PVE, simple absence) then we get to take over that role. Each mob is different when it comes to this, but chances are, someone there will know how to do it if you don't. The best way is to use a caster pet (Unless specified otherwise, because sometimes the other pets don't want to attack things) and then backoff/call servant (<-- great macro).4. Heals - I have saved raids before by healing when the healers are having troubles. Heal, lifetap, heal, lifetap. Archlich helps, consumption helps... Also use those mini-spells triggered by Drawing of Souls. Those two buffs are great for the main tank, or for yourself in PVP, and the heal saves lives, too.5. Hearts - I hate this part, but it's always important. Power is always an issue.6. Rezzes - I tend to have a hard time keeping enough essences on me, but that's my problem. Still, healers should NOT rez during raids. If a dirge isn't there/can't do it, necros should be on top of it.7. Feign Death - This is good for saving raids if you can't revive/restart for any reason in a raid zone. It also goes along with pet pulling sometimes. Trial and error. I think that's it, and I'm really too tired to come up with some kind of insightful closure here. Just learn the class and you'll do fine. You'll pick up on little tidbits as you go. =)
