I wonder why my mage-pet during combat is going in melee when i give him the command not to move. With all the ae's in raidzones it would be usefull, when i could root him on max range. Is that a bug or wanted?

You cant give your pet the command to not move you simply have attack, back off stop defending owner/self and the pet sod off button.Backing your pet off will stop them reacting to you being hit but as soon as you hit attack they will be back on the move again and as we all know our mage pets are scout wannabes. Not a bug just bad design, we should either get a skill to root our pet or they put in the root function on magic leash aa.

Wrong! You can command your pet to follow or to stand still.

Not following is very different to rooting him on the spot, ordering him to attack causes him to move he will just not follow once the creature is dead.

Yes i know and when the mob is death, the pet returns to the place it was rooted to. The question is, is that wanted or not by the devs. When i root a pet, i don't want him to move, even when i'm under attack. Imo this option is bugged.

I think not allowing us a pet which attacks from a fixed ranged position is intentional myself.  Would likely open lots of exploit holes.

You arent rooting him though you are telling him to stand still which he will do fine until you hit the attack button when he will use the standard mage pet behaviour and cast spells then move to melee. The magic leash aa did originally have a root component to it which was removed in beta but i guess the devs had their reasons for not allowing it most notably in my mind would be the ability for necros and conjys to stand at the back nuking with their pets at no real risk and thus increasing their dps more.

Seems like after it's first 2 spells it likes to rush in and pretend to attack.  After the 2 spells I tell the pet to back off and I hit attack again.  It's the only non-AA way I know how to keep the pet away.

This calls for the mage pet to be nothing but a total pain in the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn].  Enough for me to go the sta line finisher.

IMO, they need to bring back the rooted-magepet-aa.

The stay option is more so used for the scout pet so that when your fighting a group of mobs it will stay there untill you send him to attack again instead of running back to you, thus saving time  between pet engaging.

Currently there is no way to root our mage pet, it used to be part of the int AA line but that part was taken out, and you could use the posses AA when the mage was casting to root it in place but thats been fixed for some time now.

there was an aa in the int line that rooted the pet and gave them an increased crit chance or something i think.  never really understood why they got rid of it then we would have had atleast one useful aa line.  sucks that they gave us such [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ty AAs that was probably because we were overpowered but now we are getting nerfed and the AAs still suck.

Magic leash rooted and deagroed.I just respecced my aa's yesterday to mage pet 4-4-4-6-8 and personally im loving it. 90% of the time my pet stays behind me as soon as i see him run in i hit backoff and attack and hes back out of range.I love my master scout pet and the damage is significntly better but i had far less pet downtime on raids and far less peeling of mobs (in groups not raids) so far with my mage.Plus making my entire group yawn in synchronisation when i hit magic leash is good fun.
