Hello everyone and well met! My hubby and I have played EQ 1 for quite awhile and have looked into EQ 2 as a much needed change. I used to play a necro there and after looking over several posts about the necro class I just have a couple of questions in you do not mind answering them. I apologize if these have been asked already for I have looked over the boards here and did not see it but of course may have missed it.

My hubby is planning on making a bruiser and I want to make a necro to duo w/ him. We are just getting started in the game so we are learning the dos/donts and how-tos as we go. My question is:

Would a bruiser/necromancer be a viable combo for a duo group?

We do plan on grouping w/ other ppl when we can and joining a guild when we are able but, if the problem ever arises that we can not find a group can we still duo effectively?

We had that problem in EQ 1 b/c we were both DPS classes but had no healer which made it difficult to duo. We were hoping that since EQ 2 is more of a casual gaming experience that we could duo as much as we wanted to w/out the need of LFG. Any feedback on this would be extrememly useful for us  being the noobs that we are to EQ 2. :smileyhappy:

Thanks!

I would love to hear input on this is well since we are both moving to a new server and starting afresh.  Hubby and I want to do something completely different this time with our characters.

well, the only problem i see is that you got no healer again, necros get a little heal later in the game but not that much, id say play a defiler or fury to compliment the bruiser.  or play 2 necros... =)

I think this would be a great combo personally. It may not be a power-gamers kind of duo but it'd definitely be a lot of fun. The bruiser gets a self heal and the necro gets a transfer life spell so you wouldn't completely be without healing. The biggest difference I can see in play styles is that you'd probably be all about burning down mobs as quickly as possible rather than going for those long drawn out fights against orange con heroics that you might be tempted to do in a tank/healer duo.

Bruiser draws the aggro while the necro fires away and uses a dps pet. Oh, almost forgot, the warlock pet will also use an aoe lifetap eventually and give some more minor healing to the duo. Again, I think this would be fun and you'd definitely blow through the baddies.

The only problem I see in these groups is that you have a tendency to argue over who the tank should be...The rub is that although a bruser is a truer tank in general... a Bruiser dies! The necro pet is a slightly worse tank, but if it does so what, let the bruiser taunt the mob off and no love lost.If you choose to have the bruiser primary tank, necros aren't the best at healing main tanks, so your best strategy tends to be forget the tank pet and try to go all out dps, adopting the old kill before you die mentality.Either way, yeah its doable, but it takes more work and cooperation.Necros really rock when duoing with priests, other summoners, or even non melee DPS classes.

Playing a necro is a blastSMILEY, I have had nothing but fun with it. I Mostely solo'd myself to lvl 49. Anyone reguardlees of class that I duo'ed with was nothing but a help to me. My advice, tell you hubby to play what is the most fun for him, and have a blast together.

Shanabue

49 Necro, Savant Gaurd,  Highkeep

The thing is, for many many levels your necro tank pet, at adept 3, will be able to tank just fine.  Duoing with a bruiser, the necro will be all-out dps, which is fine but it negates one thing that the necro can do pretty well, which is provide a tank that holds aggro well. The necro heal won't help very much if the bruiser is taking substantial melee damage in tanking mode.  The recast time and total hp won't really keep up. The necro/bruiser combination WILL work, but it won't be as efficient as a combination that includes a priest class. Bruisers are great in duo's with a druid or shaman class.  If your heart is set on the necro (which is really a fun class I can state from personal experience), perhaps hubby would be interested in some priest class.  If not, you'll still have plenty of fun, but just more down-time.

An assasin would most likely pull the aggro off the pet rather rapidly. Healer and Summoner duo seems to be the common consensus for most effective duo going right now.

I've just been going over these posts and figure I'd ask my own question here instead of starting a new thread. My girlfriend is a Necro, right now I rolled up a Bruiser but I'm finding it pretty tough without healing or the ability to rez (but we are only 21 at the moment) As it stands, I feel somewhat overpowered by her, her pet may not tank as well, but it (as stated before) not need a rez after. She also lacks Feign death (necros don't get that?) so I'm debating what to do. How do Berserkers do? I tried defiler, but the lack of damage was really hard to handle. I've been debating wizard, I've always wanted to try an all-out damage class, and I like root. Basically I'm looking to be able to do some damage, and so we don't die too often (though she does need to re-learn how to root-park. She always considered this game too easy, and is now paying for it with loss of skill) I'm also looking for an entertaining class. Something which isn't just button mashing for max damage. Thanks in advance

Necro's get FD at 40 and rez at 48.

It sounds like you might like the Fury.  My husband plays one and we had alot of fun duoing.  We never had problems finding groups either.  The only issue was the aggro control.  Because Furys can nuke for much more than we can in one shot, its rather easy for them to pull aggro off the tank pet.

i duo'd with an assassin from lvl 40-48 and it was really easy. i used tank pet, let him get a good hold on agro..assassin would come in and stab away and the mobs were dead in about 15 seconds.

My wife and I play a Monk/Nec combo and it's great.  The only problem we have is the Nec tank pets stealling agro from the monk.
