Hello Necromancers! We have a weekly feature on the various classes for our podcast at www.eq2-daily.com . I am looking for some input from you all about your class to use in our discussion, in the form of this forum "interview." I'll post some questions for you all to answer, and then we'll talk about your thoughts. Please try to be somewhat brief in your answers, and please try to be objective. Thank you all.

1. What do you like about your class?
     a.
     b.
     c.
2. What do you not like?
     a.
     b.
     c.
3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class?
4. In general is it easy to find a group?
5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)?
6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)?

1. What do you like about your class?
     a.  Versatility/Utility - rez, fd, heal, different pets, fear, root, stun, debuffs
     b.  DPS
     c.  Look and Lore of the Necro

2. What do you not like?
     a.  Pet bugs - pathing, Line of sight issues, they dont stop fighting a broken encounter if you jump on a wall

3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class?  I do well solo, group and raids
4. In general is it easy to find a group?  yes (usually in guild though - so may not be typical)

5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)?  comparable, I think thier tank pets are a little tougher and mage pets do a little more dps - but nothing to significant in the overall picture.  Sometimes I envy the AE they have - but thats thier nitch

6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? Yellow Heroics if they dont cast and I have time to waste.

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. Ability to solo well.
     b. Survivability (feign death, pet tank and run, etc)
     c. Versatility (I can tank for a group using my pet, do crowd control, dps, backup heal)
2. What do you not like?
     a. Bizarre pet pathing in dungeons
     b. Every mage wearing one of 2 robes (purple and gold or black)
     c. Near uselessness of our dark hearts, sacrificial hearts, etc.
3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class? Anything but primary healer for a group. We can tank, we can dps, we solo, we can duo, we can group, raid, invis scout, rez, crowd control...
4. In general is it easy to find a group? Yes
5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)? If a group had to pick either a necro or a conjuror, many would pick the conjuror because they're seen as having better group buffs and stronger pets. Necros can generally do more personal dps while a bigger chunk of the conj's dps comes from their pet. As for comparing? Have 'em duel and either could win.
6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? We're great soloers. Highest mob I can reliably solo is a yellow ^^^

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. utility(rezz, mana shards, FD, and amazing mana regen from pet taps and lich)
     b. DPS      c. solo ability
2. What do you not like?
     a. pet line of sight bug
     b. pet pathing
     c. lack of good gear (really mage problem than just necro, give us focus effects already)
3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class? i think it is pretty open we are good solo in groups and on raids so no matter what you prefer it is a pretty good class. 4. In general is it easy to find a group? i never had a hard time finding a group but normally that is because i grouped with guildies.  even if you can't find a group though we are really great soloers if you are trying to kill alot of mobs fast like when XPing cause there is so little downtime and we kill pretty fast.
5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)? i think we compare pretty well with conjurers
6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? we can solo heroics but can't do it very quickly since they just tear through our pets so fast they really aren't worth even using.

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. Options and variety
     b.  Health Transfer
     c.  Pets

2. What do you not like?
     a. sacrificial hearts not useful at current potency.
     b. Scout and Mage pets needs some differentiating in what they do, although getting better
     c. The worst thing is seeing  many classess with pets. I'm concerned that all classess will one day have access to all types of spells which keeps sublclasss unique.

3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class?  Solo, but good in groups/raids also

4. In general is it easy to find a group? Outside of guild its 50/50

5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)?  I prefer necros, but dont have good info. on Conjurers

6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? Great soloing  ^^blue

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. Versatility (FD, Rez, Heal, Lifetap, Power regen etc).
     b. DPS (we have some kick butt pets).
     c. Survivability (FD, Sacrifical Pet).
2. What do you not like?
     a. Pet issues (pathing and Line of sight).
     b. Recast on FD too long.
     c. Heart line should summon a heart for each group member, and needs a longer range).
3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class? Solo but very group/raid friendly.
4. In general is it easy to find a group? Very easy.
5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)? Both are about equal with either have a slightly different strength over the other giving a unique perspective.
6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? Yellow ^^^ reliably.

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. Versitility and adaptabilty it is a very fun class to play and has many play styles that allow different ppl to enjoy how they play the class in there own way
     b. Decent DPS making it a wanted class in groups and raids
     c. The thrill of being evil and summoning undead

2. What do you not like?
     a. Lack of Unique class items ( miss the scythe (sp) from eq1 days ) Robes -- mage in general and i know beating a dead horse here but come on they gotta do something to make use look diferent then ever other mage out there
     b. Few spells have issue.. Deathly parlor (FD) recast is way to long ... Our Res spell doesnt change from app-master ... summoned hearts have become basicly useless (they dont give enough power anymore )
     c. pets... its one the things that sets us apart from other class yet so many classes seem to have them even if they just fluf at times

3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class?  This is best part as there is realy no one style for us you can tank pet and solo some decently hard mobs, can go scout pet and solo thru normal white-yellow con solo mobs -- or can group and go mage and do an AoE barrage group its all up to how u want to play

4. In general is it easy to find a group?  For me would say yes, but this is also driven by server population and how well you are know on a server

5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)? Think we work hand and hand with each other and if we team up as a duo it is endless what we can accomplish.  With there tank pet and healing and our dps and assisted healing its amazing some the stuff ive done

6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? Extremly well.... sometimes maybe to well as we seem to be the tip of the knife when ppl complain on dps and there class not being able to solo.... Highest mob... ive soloed many a white sometimes even yellow ^^^ named heroics.  On occasion if i catch the spawns up in SS ive soloed the Scorpion Epicx2 and the Waterspot Epicx2 thing near wall u climb down into Bay of Aken.

1. What do you like about your class?
     a. I'm my own mini group when I'm feeling antisocial --- My tank is Daisy(pet), and I do the heal and dps
     b. Versatile --- I can backup heal in a group, if I like root rotting I can do that, etc. This class has something for everyone imo
     c.  Invis! Heal! DPS! Tankage! Can any other class (aside from conjurers) provide all that?
2. What do you not like?
     a. Well...hmmm I guess the lack of individuality in clothing. I'm a dedicated nonrobe wearer though so it affects me in a different way. I don't think necros should run out in their bathrobes to conquer their world...what's dark and mysterious (and sexy, in the way dark and mysterious can be) about that?? We (all classes) need more variety in robes *and* nonrobes for each class to wear. (and not the visually nerfed 'improvements' like bruisers got)
     b.  Not sure if it's just me, getting a new pet and all but it *seems* like perhaps the aoe of my pet's taunts aren't as effective as it used to be. Or perhaps it'll just continue to get tougher as I level, in which case I'll be less satisfied at 60 than I am at 38, or was at 30 etc Or again it could be the mobs I'm currently fighting --- may try a new area.
     c.
3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class? Whatever your style is, this class supports it I think. root rot, pet tanking, grouping up for dps slot, etc I've been in groups where my pet is tank, although that's not my favorite way to do it --- too many people have a problem assisting the pet instead of me which creates havoc as I bounce from targets to pet doing cc healing dmg etc 4. In general is it easy to find a group? If I want a group, I have it.
5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)? Not sure, don't really know any conjurers to compare to. I am considering starting a conjurer when I hit 60 on my necro (and also on my main, a 57 warden) to compare etc.  Necro will always be favored for my grumpy times lol
6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)? Necromancer is perfect for solo. I've never really tested my limits, it's not my nature/playstyle to do so. I solo blue/green heroics,(with assorted up/down arrows, or none) and if I don't get adds I take them with ease. Adds make things difficult due to the encountered nature of the pet taunts.  It's good xp, any higher would be ALOT more work and crap xp so I don't really care to try harder, I'm lazy at heart *g*  I've soloed named green heroic ^^^ but it was pretty tough, not good xp'wise so I just do it hoping to get a master (I have rotten luck, no masters yet lol)

Thanks for your comments all. This podcast went live late last week so feel free to check it out if you like. The class specific stuff is towards the end. This segment turned out pretty good as we had Xalmat of http://eq2.eqsummoners.com/ on with us to talk about Conjurers and Necromancers. Feel free to let us know what you think here or on our forums -  http://www.eq2daily.com/discuss/viewtopic.php?t=494

I'd check out the thread about this on eqsummoners as well to see some opinions which have already been said. Basically though, it was much better than most of your class segments since it was an interview with someone knowledgable, rather than just "well people on our forums seemed to say..." which is the case in classes which you guys don't normally play yourselves.Definitely worth a listen though to those that haven't heard it.

Checked out the podcast. Awesome job, Xalmat! I for one can echo the "wish list" sentiment regarding the variety in armor/gear looks. Sounds like you kindled a bit of interest in the Summoner classes while you were at it :smileywink:Cheers

Yup, one of the reasons I wanted to do the podcast in the first place. As a 60 Conjuror I can speak intimately about my class, and as a 36 Necro I can at least comment on life up in the mid-levels (where it truly begins to get interesting).

What do you like about your class?

    a. I like that we are the longest lasting damage dealers in the game. The longer the encounter is, the more of a chance we are going to be the biggest hitter.  We never run out of power if played right.

    b.  Utiliy in raids/groups,  there is a great feeling when you save a member with your heal then LT and get the health back. Saving a group/raid by FD/Rez is pretty satisfying as well.

    c.  I like that we can perform croud control with fear, root or a pet tank off-tanking. Along with everything else, I think this add to our utility being better than our good counterpart.

2. What do you not like?

    a. Our mage pet.

    b. Our pets having an AE that breaks mezzes or agros more than one at a time.

    c. Differentiated pet graphics

3. What kind of play style is best suited to your class?

Raiding, short group fights don't allow us to maximize our DPS.  We have the Siphon Life and Death Rot series for quick damage but the rest of our lines are over time and group encounter are quick.  On raids, necros have a variety of functions.  We pass out power hearts, heal, FD and rez.  We can do all of those activities after we cast our DoTs, swarms and pet and still do great dps. With Lich, pet taps and pet-agro harvesting we are a pretty good crafting choice as well.
4. In general is it easy to find a group?

Yes, I never had a problem getting groups even pre-LU13.  Now it seems even easier and we always have the choice of soloing.

5. How would you compare your class to your good/evil counterparts (Conjurers)?

Conjurers have a better tank pet and do more damage.  They don't have the variety of utility that necros have. It makes playing the class so much more interesting and challenging.

6. How do you feel your class does soloing? What is the highest lvl mob you can solo (i.e. yellow ^ or blue v)?

With a little bit of luck I can solo blue and even heriocs. On group encounters, we use root and fear to minimize the targets taken on at one time and ^^^ can be taken on with multiple pets.  The two spells that help determine what you can handle, are the Diseased Servant and Grisly Ward lines. The item that helps is the Cadduceus(40% pet heal staff).

HOLY CRAP?!?!

What?

I have to look at your setup, or is this a stun/root run kite type deal?  The BEST I can do (lvl 60, full adept3 loadout) is soloing a high lvl ^^^ green (lvl 55 mob at lvl my lvl 60), and even then I die half the time if I don't time my pet heals right.  Even 'solo' yellow mobs can be tough, I recall when I was upper 40s being able to solo a high lvl yellow, and very rare orange (if I had upgraded spells).

How are you reliabily soloing yello ^^^'s ?

Again... assuming you are doing some 'special' root/stun recast pet / kite whatever setup.... if it is, I would say you are misleading the people @ EQDaily...

Yellow ^^^s are possible they just take like 10 minutes and give like crap for exp. In 10 minutes, you could have gotten more exp off solos. That's why you don't as a practice do it. Soloing for exp is generally a bad idea in t6. It's possible to get about 10 percent an hour doing it off the golos in PoF, but it's not fun.
