There's another pet agro thread up right now, but this is an entirely different issue, so I wanted to make a separate thread.Up until two days ago or so I used the following method to kill unstunnable mobs with a high-dps pet:Locate a pet, isolate it and mez it. Pull the mob I need to kill (named, generally, to be worth this trouble).Charm the pet.Debuff, root, and get a safe distance/out of line of sight away.Attack with the pet. When root breaks, recast before getting mowed down, clear off to a safe distance again. Now, what would happen here is that because the pet was not charmed until after the mob was agrod, it was counter to the game's coding to allow this pet to tank. An extremely annoying thing about charm, frankly, but I'd found this way to work with it, at least. This has *always* worked since the change of charm a dozen LUs ago (maybe even before that), so it wasn't just a random occurence. I'm sure most of you have noticed it happening and were probably aware of the sequence of events that caused it to happen (charm after engage). Two days ago I was attempting this, and I had to go through six pets to kill a mob that I generally have little issue with, as the pet would instantly pull agro and explode. This has been the norm since that day, I can no longer force a pet to not take agro. If this is a bug fix I'm a-ok with it, as it opens up a lot of other new possibilities... But I would have hoped for some hotfix notes or somesuch.Has anyone else noticed this happening? Or would be willing to test it out? Thanks!

This issue has been brought up before in various forms; the reason pets that are charmed mid-fight will not take hate is because of your encounter lock setting. If you have encounters locked by default, you'll get the behavior where your newly charmed pet will be unable to take hate (because the game doesn't recognize it as part of your "party"). From your description, it sounds like you must have turned off default encounter locking at some point, which is why your pets are now pulling hate even if you charm them during a fight. If your encounters are still locked, maybe they did sneak in a fix for this, though I would have expected it to appear in the patch notes.

Hrm, interesting. I didn't know that was the cause of this issue, thanks for the information! Unfortunately, that setting is, and has been since they added the option of unlocking your encounters, set to always lock. I just checked it again now to be sure, it's set to locking and the pets are still taking agro. It really does seem like it should have been a documented change, so I'm still operating on the assumption that it's just something on my side and not a global fix.
