Hey Gals and guys,
I currently have a lvl 53 Illusionist. I have been talking to our guild and am more than likely going to betray to Coecer as we have a couple other Illusionists coming up the ladder but no Coercers. We are a raid guild and it seems the benifets of a raiding Coercer outweigh those of a Illusionist.

That said, I am trying to descide when to actually betray. Should I wait till I'm 70, do it now or is there a specific level where coercer gets a key spell to make soloing and small groups more viable.

I do have a lvl 25ish Coercer but could never get the hang of the charm thing so retired him. How good are coercers at soloing without relying on charm?

hmmm.. charmless coercer = illusionist.  Stay where you are.  If you can't "get the hang" of playing probably one of the best solo classes in the game, I doubt you'll be much of an asset to any group, much less a raid.  This is not a flame, just a reality check for you.

Continue rolling your lowbie coercer and learn the class.  By the time you get to 70, you'll have gotten "the hang of it".

Actually, a charmless Coercer would be worse than an illusionist as they still get a pet. If I were going to betray, I would do it now and get it over with. Betraying at 70 would be folly as your spells will all be reset to Apprentice 1. You may as well bite the bullet and do it now. Having said all that, your motives for doing a betrayal seem hazy at best. Sure you want to help your guild but you have already ditched a Coercer as you didn't like the playstyle (at the relatively easy level of 25). It will not help your guild to switch, get sick of playing and leave the game or change class again. I'd pick up your 25 Coercer and level him up. The grind doesn't really start until 50 anyway and you will learn a hell of a lot more about the class and whether you want to play it long-term with that approach.

Thanks for the input. Some good things to think about here. I will probably stay an illusionist. When he reaches 70 I might try the coercer again. I have been reading a few of the threads here regarding charm and pets and such.

P.S. I didn't think any of this was a flame but rather good input that helped allot! Thanks!
