I had this spell in my spell book as total waste of space and now I found several funny ways of using it....

a) Moving mob out of my way elsewhere - posses it and move it out of your pathway (work wonder against mobs that see invis)
b) Learning purpose before chosing pet with right script - posses mob check spell bar to see what spell mob loaded, how many HP have ect....
c) Using it as secondary pet for short duration (can posses mob from outside of combat - run to fight in mob body unleash best CA on target and run back to spawn point .....- net result - target been serverly damaged, next target used its best CA and harmless for time been
d) Screwing spawns around - posses mob - run outside of agro range of your avatar and attack something mean ... once possesion ware off ..... heh mobs are keep fighting each other then your former victim die ... you get exp! SMILEY

It can also be used as an interesting way of pulling a mob to you MT.

You can sometimes  use it as a 24 second stun in that respect if the damage it takes from groupmates doesn't break the posession.

You can have it "play poorly" against groupmade for 24 seconds by casting the wrong spells, cancel any buffs it has on itself, etc.

Still working on other not necessarily intuitive uses of it.

Having the posessed mob jump off of an island is still perhaps the more humorous use so far...

Just be carefull to end the spell before the mob lands or dies.

I have died from jumping off an island

I would never use posession on a future pet.

I have reported this before but here it is again.

Try this little test.

Charm a corpse candle.
Fight a few mobs and get a feel for the dps of the pet.
Brake charm
/yell
Posess the former pet
Drop posess
Recharm
Fight a few mobs to get a feel for dps.

It will now have the dps of a wet blanket. (hmm that might sting though)

Interesting.I've jumped a lot of mobs off of the islands and none have come back to attack me yet.I've also jumped a fair number of mobs off the waterfall in TT and they've never come back to attack me.It did look at times that some of them stayed down in the area around the bottom of the waterfall though.

I think what is meant, If you don't cancel the spell before the mob 'lands'  it could kill you... course I'm thinking of trying it anyways....

Mobs don't land when you jump them off the side of an island from what I've seen.

Plus, when I jump them off the waterfall they almost never die and they've never come back up to attack me.

About mobs attack .... my victims never attack me but .... if you posses some grey [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] in and it get agro from same grey neiborhood (like fighterlings) once they kill your former victim they come after you - not that you will take much or any damage from grey conned mobs but its deffinitly annoying

One more thing I dont know if this intentional or its bug....
You cannt use possed pet to attack same encounter period..... IF you attack different encounter THEN after posses brakes your former vicim become for you no loot-no exp (aka grey conns). I have possesed several mobs in HoF ..... I found couple VERY odd skills like "damage shield" that goes off every time target take damage and guess what damage on that shield? 5k !!! :robotmad:

I use this all the time to jump mobs off islands and/or cliffs.  But yes, the fall can hurt you too.  It only happened to me once but up at the great egg zone in, i was posessing defendes and jumping them off the cliff into the faries.  Well, they run really slow so by the time he landed, the spell ended.  Almost at the exact same time.  I took about 3K damage when I came back to my body and the guardian lived...I don't think too many people were happy that a aggro mob "popped" into the non-aggro area...

You can also use it when there are oposing factions at play.  For example, in the nest of the great egg there are the two aviaks as soon as you enter from climbing down the wall...when I posess one, the other starts to attack but still thinks i'm part of it's encounter and vise versa...so I walk over to the hooluks and de-posess...they start attacking it and it's buddy goes to help it...the way is clear...

As for using this while your team-mates beat up on it...how?  I can't use this in combat at all.  When I try nothing happens.  How can some of you use it?  When ever I posess outside of an encounter and bring the creature back to my group the encounter is always locked and I cannot engage.  How is this different for anyone else?

I do like the part where the creatures that aggro you while posessed will continue to beat the crap out of the creature until it's dead.  Haven't noticed xp from it yet.

Over all, I like this spell a lot and use it often.  Can really help as noted against seen invis mobs, or just to get info on creatures.  Great spell!

Oh, and if they resist the initial casting, they do insta aggro, so upgrades are worth it if you plan to keep using it.
