I was in a group of guildies doing an HoF no-kill run tonight and saw my rift crit fairly high. This started me wondering how high people have actually seen it crit for. From what I can tell Catalyst and Freehand Sorcery don't have any effect on Rift. What is your highest Rift crit?

![]() That is indeed a fine number for Rift--someone told me they thought Rift as an AoE doesn't respond to Catalyst, but I disagree. I too have seen numbers like this using the spell with Catalyst. An issue for me though is that my friend the wizzie last night on a Labs raid used Fusion with crit and guess what? The spell hit for over 13,000 points of damage to the several epics we were fighting--this seems unfair. Wizzies shouldn't have an AoE that does more damage than a warlock, who is supposed to be the top tier of AoE, DoT damage. Sony needs to address this issue--and I don't mean by nerfing wizzies. They need to fix our spell set! Some will make the argument that Fusion hits fewer mobs, straight out in front of the spellcaster, while Rift hits all mobs in a circular radius. This is indeed true, yet most of us would agree that in most situations Fusion is superior to Rift--thus in many ways, wizards--who need no crystals, who have a mana recovery spell that DOES NOT TAKE LIFE EXCHANGE, and who have a truly useful utility spell that evacs their party (while warlocks have nothing that useful--our Siphoning line is one of the biggest jokes in the game)--are thus superior to warlocks as a class. Sony needs to address these issues--again, not by nerfing wizzies, but by giving warlocks back some of our former glory and refining our class's spells. ![]() This folks, is what happens when you can't play your class. Wizards are lower dps than Warlocks as it is, and they have all of their higher dps nukes. The pets, the procs, etc are what makes warlock superior dps. Pillaging is a more useful utility at 350power/min to group than an evac ever will be. Evac is a fun spell in this game. Rift used to not crit or respond to catalyst..they fixed it a few patches ago.

I am no longer a warlock sadly, one of the reasons is that Wizards have better DPS.(1154958892)[Mon Aug 07 23:54:52 2006] ************s Fusion critically hits Nizari'ishi vindicae for 17526 points of cold damage.(1154958892)[Mon Aug 07 23:54:52 2006] ************'s Fusion critically hits Nizari'ishi vindicae for 17995 points of cold damage. Those are in a single group. He does numbers like that all the time. Here is another guild wizzie one.. non-crit this time(1154866463)[Sun Aug 06 22:14:23 2006] *******'s Fusion hits a carrion worm for 18991 points of cold damage.(1154866463)[Sun Aug 06 22:14:23 2006] *******'s Fusion hits a carrion worm for 14880 points of cold damage.(1154866463)[Sun Aug 06 22:14:23 2006] *******'s Fusion hits a carrion worm for 17278 points of cold damage.Warlocks still need fixing.

![]() Well if your looking for single hit damage the Wizard will always come out on top. If your looking at overall damage, the Warlock is going to wtfpwn the Wizard.I don't think the warlock needs "Fixing".

![]() Hah. Soulbringer.. I ran into you on Kithicor on my secret level 2 warlock spy. The reason for Rift being not able to crit using Catalyst is because Catalyst crits before using your hostile spell. Beings the description of Rift explains that you casting the spell is just the portion of lifting the target in the air, and the damage is actually caused from them falling(though not technically falling damage o.O). So pretty much that's why it's like that. |

![]() Anyone that thinks 324 power/min is a joke needs to be shot. M1 of the T7 chanter regen is 410 power/min, so ours is about 80% of that. Also, try casting evac next time you're raiding and see how much your group likes it.Further, what power regen spell do wizards get that doesn't cost power? Their self canni costs health, their feed costs health... Unless you mean the reactive power regen, which warlocks get and doesn't cost health.

![]() The few wizards in our guild do turn in highest hit on 95% of our raid parses. Each one of them, however, are under the final dps of all our warlocks (who actually lived through the fight) on probably 4 out of 5 parses. We still cannot seem top the half dozen or so conjs we have in the guild with any consistancy at all. Our three warlocks rarely get to beat one of our conjs in particular. That little [Removed for Content] is so frickin' lucky, when one of us reports a 1300, he'll somehow pull a 1301 out of his arsee. We are solid dps folks. We are there to help the raid pull the 12k-15k needed to beat encounters. We will hardly ever be on the top in most all encounters, but we will do decent solid dps. EDIT: blah, sorry this is off topic. was thinking about another post Message Edited by BaronVonPitviper on 08-17-2006 09:55 AM

Whoa, whoa whoa. This is completely false. I have a 70 wizard and a 64 warlock, and that is way, way way off base. The only time a warlock is superior DPS to a wizard is on groups of 3-4, which is what percentage of the population 20-25%? On ^^^ or ^^ mobs, wizards are far superior to warlock dps, even if warlocks use their damage adds. The game isn't all about raiding. Also a note on DPS parsing. We used to run parses quite regularly on Nagafen and most of the time the assassins won the parses, but sometimes when you would look at the numbers, I might land a fusion for 10k, and then at the end of a short fight my total damage wouldn't be 10k. Or I might land an 8k ice nova and at the end of the fight my damage would be less than 8k. I'm not sure what causes this, if you are out of range, or what, but it definately happens. ![]() Let the Wizards have Fussion, I run with a Wizard and our fighting styles compliment each other. It is truely amazing what a Wizard/Warlock combination can take on. Remember too, our spell has a 12 maximum target, theirs is 3....8000 damage times 3 is much less then 4000 times 12. We just need to build on our strengths to make us shine. Yeah yeah, I agree that there are few encounters that are in large numbers, but I'm not that really concerned with having the highest DPS in the game, the ability to zap a group to random locations, or throw them into the air is the best. We are 2 different classes ment for 2 different pourposes. I don't have a Wizard, but after playing a warlock, I'm happy. Message Edited by Selpone on 08-26-2006 02:23 PM |

![]() I hate to break it to you, but your not playing your Warlock properly. I can out dps absolutely anyone on any pull that contains two mobs or more. There's something your missing when you play your Warlock. Also, your 64 Warlock needs more AA. We shine when our AA has been completed, and we have the Catalyst and Freehand Sorcery lines finished.
