AA Question - Brainstorm

At the moment I have gone to the strength line and got catalyst AA (guaranteed critical hit) also gone down the wis line and put 8 AA points into freehand sorcery and I like the setup so far and the huge hits I can get. I am now on 37AA points.Im wondering where to go next? I hear people mention brainstorm (further down the wis line) the discription says something like "increases the base damage of spells by 1%" when it says base damage does it mean the minimum damage it can hit for only? or that the full range can be higher?for exampleIce nova (guessed numbers)5678 - 7695 - standard damage rangeBecomes1. 5900-7695 (low end minimum hit becomes higher)or2. 5900 - 7986 (Low end hit and high end hit become higher)Dont want to have any expensive AA respecs! thanks for any help.

It increases all base damage, min and max damage. I have rank 5 (5% increase) even if you are under the int cap without a secondary item you get more out of it than max int.

in terms of pure damages, it is better to have ALL spells mini/max (then average) increased 8 percent than freehand !5 FH 8 BS is better than 8 FH 5 BS

It is number 1! I find it to be abit under whelming my self I probably would not take it... For me doing group instances and soloing I like FH better as there is usaly a few seconds down time between fight so that I can rechage and cast my ice nova with cat and fh on it.... the extra damage on the low end might be good in a long battle but then again if you are into raiding I would sugest agi and the deagro line as those seem to give more bang over a long period.

HairyDustBall absolutely wrong. Brainstorm increases the entire range of the spell. For example my nova moves up almost 800 points on the potential maximum with brainstorm which is easily observable by equipping and unequipping the secondary slot. Combining Brainstorm with Freehand (24 pct) and Catalyst my wiz always novas (adept 3 dang it) for over 10k and hits for as high as 13k. In raids with the right amount of debuffs this combo hits for over 20k. Duffus lvl70 wiz Duufuss lvl70 Pally Everfrost

Thanks for the help all, I am wondering what my fusion hit range will be if brainstorm is based on a percentage. Currently I have fusion and ice nova adept 3 and casting FH and catalyst gives fusion a max hit of 11003 (I think from memory) but my max hit so far is 20107 (Ice nova 15007) so I am hoping this will increase my highest hit.

I know, I know hate management etc but nothings more satisfying than booming down 3 mobs at once with near 50K damage!

I totally agree, I got master 1 some times ago, and it is terrific ! I'm still in hope of going up 30K, right now my record is 27458 and my total record around 50K only SMILEY

the other side of the medal is that when you crit Ice Nova for 10K or 11, you are so disapointed ! and if catalyst fizzles you can have a 5K ice nova, and that's so noobish that you blush and hide yourself under your keyboard. SMILEY

when examined with brainstorm the m1 is around 11,900 max.
