Eh, I'll give the post the benefit of the doubt. There's a bit of a misconception, here.  It is true enough that Wizards are meant to achieve the highest single-target DPS.  But this has never been the reality, nor is it remotely the case today.  Limit the qualifying classes to DPS mages, and you have:NecromancersConjurorsdoing more DPS frequently enough that there isn't anyone out there who tries to argue otherwise.  If you meant DPS from any class, regardless of archeytpe, then tack on:RangersAssassinsBruisersBrigandsFurthermore, if you are under the impression that a Wizard, as a DPS-only class, is at least capable of a great deal more DPS than classes not listed above, then you may be in for a bit of disabusement, because there are a further half dozen classes who regularly come within 80 to 90% of a Wizard's output.

now by doing that much damage.....are there any spells that will reduce hate or do they just get alot of aggro right off the bat and get beaten down?
Wizards have a spell which can be used to reduce threat, but using it eats into an already decidedly unremarkable damage output, unless it is specifically utilized before the beginning of an encounter.  However, when it comes to single-target encounters, all a Wizard really needs is a Troubador in the group and a good tank somewhere in the raid.  In fact, in my experience, the only classes which seem to suffer a fair bit of agro on a single target are Brigands (problem solved with a handy BP) and Conjurors (if they're too lazy to be careful), the two of whom tend to vie for first place in a typical parse.
