I have a level 26 paladin on blackburrow. I team up with my friend Herrix, who is a level 26 Ranger. Yesterday, we completed the first part of the Splitpaw Saga, and then entered the Gnoll Cave upper levels. During that time, I died five times, he died once because I died and was unable to heal us.When I fight a single mob, I sit and whittle away on it. When Herrix fights FOUR MOBS, he kills them all within seconds. When he solos, he can take on groups of 4-6 at a time, and kill them faster than I could kill ONE or TWO of them. When he switches to his wizard, he kills stuff faster than I ever could.I don't get it. Did I choose the wrong class? Because as far as I can tell, alone, I am nothing and I rely solely on his abilities to kill the mobs while I just sit and heal my fat [Removed for Content] to keep me and him alive.I use my skills appropriately, and I match HO options with Herrix and we get some great effects out of them - unless he is using ranged weapons, so I use the HO options myself to get an extra attack. It just seems like I can't do damage worth a crap, and when I use the taunts to make sure the mobs are trained on me, I go down like a sack of potatoes.I'm considering rolling a different char because this paladin can't solo worth beans unless I take on single mobs - and, solo work is very slow going since it takes me forever to kill a mob while Herrix can take down four-five mobs our level in the time it takes me to kill ONE.Can anyone give a level 26 paladin some tips? Please? So, your friend has a ranger and wizzy and they do more damage than you. They are supposed to, Rangers are scout archetype and scouts are damage dealers, along with wizzies. You are tank, you are supposed to taunt take the hits and make sure they dont die. I've never gotten a pally to high lvls, but i'm sure you will be able to kill mobs at higher lvls than your ranger friend, since they can only solo in open areas. As for the wizzie, the root'n'nook technique might be better than you, but if the mob hits him he dies. So you might want to roll another class cause it sounds liek your a person that wants to do alot of damage and pallies arnt the class.

Agreed. Paladins are not first class dps. main task is the ability to draw aggro and to keep it. When playing without a healer you might die more often than your dps buddy since every mob will be on you till you drop dead. With higher level you will be able to get more than 60% crit heal and attack spells (depending on AA choice). My 65 pala easily does 600-700 dps, still dont wanna compare with a ranger though.<div></div>

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't using the wrong equiptment or using the wrong spells. I'm rolling a couple other characters now to play them for a while. I have just put a lot of gold into this Paladin and hope that it will age better with time.<div></div>

I can tell you first hand your Paladin will not out DPS most other classess.I have seen (in most cases) even some healers will out DPS a Paladin.I have an Assassin, Necro, Conj, Ranger . . . they can all defeat mobs that my Paladin cannot. As has been said, Paladins are not DPS, they are there to hold aggro and take hits that would kill other non-plate classess. My Paladin can solo, just not as well as other classess.<div></div>

<DIV>Your job is to get hit on the head while they do the damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You can up your DPS - but usually at the expense of your defense. Try increasing your int - a fare amount of your damage comes from spells - higher int will increase this - also increase str for more melee damage and more power.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Alot of pallies carry around two sets of gear - one aims to max tanking and the other to increase dps.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

When I solo with my pally I swap into my offensive stance and grab a 2H weapon and simply spam every attack I have. Unless I'm trying herioc mobs any solo mobs go down pretty easily. likewise as soon as I'm in a group its sword/board and defensive stance.I would concetrate on getting your def stance to AD3, getting the best gear possible, and start making healer friends <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> There are plenty of dps who like nothing more than comparing 'wang numbers', and there never would be a shortage who would like to join a group with a decetnly eqjuiped tank and a compitant healer. There arn't many classes that can solo so efficiently and what you can solo depends a lot on your level at the time, the mid twenties is a hard time for pallys, we're still missing a few of our of main abilities (oath strike (2<img src="/smilies/b2eb59423fbf5fa39342041237025880.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />, our big nuke (40), doom judgement (35), it got better in the 30s and I spent a good deal of time in nek castle soloing the undead heriocs. If you like the class, ignore what other classes can and can't do and spend your time with what you CAN do and build on that.<div></div>

Your dps friend does all the killing, while all you do is stay alive. This is EXACTLY why a paladin is so powerful, especially in duos.<div></div>The end.ps: Sorry you are dying. Get better armor or a friend with better dps. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

>>>I have a level 26 paladin on blackburrow.<<<Two thoughts to add.1. It has been awhile, but I believe you will be getting a bunch of new abilities and spells over the next 3-4 levels. The late 20s are pretty good for that so that by the time you are 30 you will be doing significantly more damage.2. When paired with a high dps character, sometimes it works to let that person do the actual tanking with you supporting him with wards and heals. It depends on the particular situation, but Paladins are flexible enough that they can provide support in a number of different scenarios. Remember that tanking depends more on the ability to hold aggro than to actually take damage and rangers/wizards can both hold aggro quite well due to their high damage potential. <div></div>

I have a level 28 Paladin, and I DPS very well at that level. I am on a PvP server, but against mobs I tear through them fast. I have all Adept 3's, lots of Masters, and very high STR/INT. I would get the spell crit on the INT line first, then maybe look into the Wraths line on EoF, if you have not done so already. Having 68% chance to crit on your spells does wonders. Also, proc, proc proc and proc more. I am using goulbane adorned right now, and I have 4 procs total right now. They do incredible DPS at that level. It is so easy to get AA's at these levels. Now, other classes will out DPS you, but it is possible to be up there with them, especially on short fights.
Another tip at that level is go after undead mobs, seriously you will go through them faster than a normal mob. I suggest down around RoV, it is great for those levels to about 30. Use your offensive stance and a 2 hander and just go after them.
