<DIV>I am considering returning to game and ressurecting my level 40 Paladin.  I loved playing my Paladin until the update quite a while back seriously changed things on the class, then fell away with the game as I was not pleased with the change.  I have seen the new expansion came out and lots of revamps and am wondering and wanting to hear from the veteran Paladins here how the Paladin stacks up as tank compared to the Berserker and Guardians.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thank you for any help and suggestions you can give.</DIV>

Grouping wise, sure... why not I've tanked for a group with my fury before now.<div></div><p>Message Edited by boli on <span class=date_text>11-21-2006</span> <span class=time_text>01:21 PM</span>

<DIV>That is very sad.  I got started with EQ2 in beta and the mantra they chanted again and again was about how all tanks will be able to tank effectively, just differently.  This led me to begin a Paladin even after the terrible experience I had with Paladin in EQ1.  I also have read that monks are e ven worse and that many groups ( not even raids!) ask for a plate tank when looking for MT for their groups in non epic zones.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So if I truly want to be able to be a tank that is raid capable as MT I am left with Guardian?  How about Berserker?  I hear that they are very good as group tanks at the very least, as I've been reading the last day or so on these forums.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyone disagree with the posted above?  I hate the idea of starting all over at level 1 when I've got a 40 Paladin.  I love the Paladin class conceptually, but it is no fun to be passed over again and again as being less then an optimal tank.  That sorta kills the whole fun of playing the Paladin for purely sentimental reasons.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Duoing, Trioing or general questing then a Paladin is a great choice... raid wise.... nope. Although saying that I like having a pally buffs when we have one as a tank in my group (note: not the MT group)<div></div><p>Message Edited by boli on <span class=date_text>11-21-2006</span> <span class=time_text>04:04 PM</span>

<DIV>Thank you for clarification.  That gives me more hope of being able to play a class that has lots of offering to me in terms of concept withouut feeling like a subpar tank.</DIV>

<P>Heya All,</P> <P>Here is my two cents on the subject. </P> <P>I raid quite often and it is true that a pally cannot tank as well as a Gaurdian or Bezerker in a raid situation. In any group that has a Guardian and a Pally it is always better to have the guardian tank and the pally play a support role.  It does not mean however that you can't tank I in many cases I help in situations where we need to dual tank encounters or if the main tank goes down pick up the mob until the main tank gets back up.  You have to think of a pally as a versatile support character in a raid situation.  I can give mitigation plus add 30% to a MT avoidance plus 65 point per tick in combat regen as well as 35 to all combat and casting skills, and that does not even count the occasional heal or ward that i can cast to buy the main healers a few seconds of time to land there big heals and i don't drop like a rock when a big AOE hits and when I am not doing any healing I can get in and add to the DPS of the raid.  That is one of the fun things about a pally you get to play a variety of roles instead of the same old thing time after time.</P> <P> </P> <P>Dalec</P> <P>70 Pally ,Befallen</P>
