Having played this game since the begining thru all the combat changes revamps balances I have read these forums and never felt the need to post cause I had some faith in whatever our classes current problems would be ironed out to some extent. We need to discuss and give possible solutions to help our class and its short comings, cause clearly no thought was put in to our new AA points to compensate for the imbalance that been instituted by the KOS expansion. (note in this post refering to end-game status of the paladin) There has been one major issue plaguing us as a class since the original combat revamp, we have been given an amazing skill set of tools to use but implementation of the fighter archetype has not given us the ability to effectively use the spells and skill at our disposal. well known short comings, less dps less mitigation since kos came out less hit points less avoidance less power (in grps or raids... heck most of the time my own grp str buff gives the warrior enough to surpass my power pool) more power intensive spells all relative to warriors When these issue are brought up the typical response is but you can heal. This is indeed true but we did not choose a fighter type to play a healer ***newsflash*** We are one of the two defensive tanks in this game and would like to play as one. The problem with the "you can heal" response is as stated above, this skill set 'implmentaion' does not work as well as the rest of the other fighters skills. We are subjuect to constant interrupts because we use SPELLS and longer cast time heals relative to warriors CA abliities that increase there tanking skills. A focus skill or an uninteruptable spell that effect all spells in a short duration needs needs to be attached to our defensive stance or skills just to bring us up to the lvl of usablity of our tanking skill sets. Don't believe me? ask a warrior when fighting a grp of mobs how many times there CA are interrupted the answer is not much if ever.. (not refering to stuns that effect us all) It usually takes 2-3 tries to get my heal or ward off when a grp of mobs is beating on me. If the mit gap is to be bridged by our healing prowess, then bring us up to par with ability to use them effectively. As a paladin we are given a great amount of utiliaty and depth as a class, why don't we see a higher demand for us then? Simple, everything we do some one does better. And you know what I am fine with that, but we can't do what we do well all at the same time as other fighters do. Again I point to the fighter archetype and how it inherently punishes crusaders. How often in a grp do you see a warrior near cap for str and having alot of power and while tanking is kicking out 800- 1000 dps. As a paladin you take an effect hit to your dps just by switching stances cause your disruption and int drop significantly. Also since we cast spells AND CAs our dps is split between 2 majors stats, Warriors can still have alot of str in defensive stance and do not incur the extra penalty we recieve when switching stances. We could overcome this if more plate armor came with int stats but as is very few good mitigation pieces come with int attached we also could increase spell dmg to still be effective while tankng and when in offensive bring our dps up to that of warriors when dpsing. Paladins are the resist/caster tank. This statement is why we recieve wisdom and 2 resists in our defensive stance. Cool. Sadly that statement is worthless. Why? wisdom does not currently effect resists enough on the whole to warrant it being that useful of a stat for tanking. (compared to the warrios added avoid) In raids when a resist is an issue either it is small enough that healers can compenstate for it or its effectively so large that one has to set up specific resist gear to it. This nullifies our wisdom as whoever is tanking it needs extremely high resists to the specific resist. Now if raid mobs had aes or spells that used more resists like 3-7 then the amount of wisdom we have would help but as is most cast 1-2 diff types of aes our spells. Other solution gives us skills to absorb or feed back magic dmg to make us a desirable tank against caster mobs. example....divine protection absorbs the next 3 magic attacks from a mob lasts 15 sec, or a proc placed on us that feeds back 25 percent of the mobs magic spells. would help us hold aggro on caster mobs in raids or if you don't want us to be the mt how about a grp buff that is proc chances to avoid magic aes from a mob. Am just asking for something so when a raid gets to a caster mob perhaps they will say hey let the pally try or atleast want us in the grp. Bottom line, with sks now having higher mit and our new aas making us either crappy dps or a crappy healer neither of which we can do well while tanking something needs to be done..... I don't want to be the poor-man's guardian I don't want to be the poor-man's templer I would like to be a paladin. Would like ppl to respond with their critiques of the paladin class and suggestions for ways we can improve if no one at soe is willing to put thought in to our new AAs then we should, and hope for the best. <div></div>
