View Full Version : Making an alt, torn between paladin and guardian

<DIV>Hi folks!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My main is a 55 guardian and he's a lot of fun to play, but I like grouping at lower levels sometimes and therefore I'll be making an alt today. I want another tank - already have mages and healers. Besides, the tank is the most important group member. There's nothing I hate more when grouped than a tank that stands around twiddling their thumbs instead of pulling <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm sort of thinking that 2 guardians would be redundant, but a huge concern for me is AE agro. I have a warlock who hates grouping with tanks other than guardian/zerker because he has to scale *way* back on the AE spells to not get agro. How are paladins on this front? Are the ones I grouped with often [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]bags that don't know how to play or is this a class limitation in that pallies just don't have the tools available to do the job as well as other tanks?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Pally soloing, easy or not (guardian soloing is terrible, it's a huge weak point in the class)?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Bottom line, are pallies fun to group in the 30s and the 40s? I couldn't care less about raiding a pally so this won't influence me since raiding bores me to tears to begin with.</DIV>

<DIV>Actually not sure why your Warlock is in love with Guards. Pally is the best combo by far if the Warlock wants to be kept alive. Warlocks need some lovin in the aggro dept. Amends (and lower lvl version) on the Warlock helps a ton.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would say that AOE aggro is decent but not as good as Guard/Zerker. Unless you have a Warlock amended then very good.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You will have many arguements but for Groups, you can't find a better tank then a Pally.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Play style will be alot different for you so I would say try it out. I wouldn't play the same class twice but that's just me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I hate soloing so I can't comment on this playstyle.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Overall I think a Pally is a great class to play for Groups/Raids. I would play a different fighter class to solo (Wouldn't pick Guard or Pally)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>If you want good group control, and want to solo...zerker is probably your best bet. Pallies suck at soloing...same for guardians.</DIV>
Yeah sounds like you want zerker. But pallys do have good aggro control, you just need to learn how to use it all... as said above, a pally tank is great for a warlock, we can siphon off 41% of their hate and add it to ours. Also pally AoE is pretty decent too, we can kill quickly if pulling lots of lower con mobs, and AOEs can be great again for aggro control.Edited to add: our best AoE comes at L55, so it's a bit of a wait. But you should be good for aggro control in Runneye or CT for 30's and 40's.<p>Message Edited by Turb0T on <span class=date_text>10-19-2006</span> <span class=time_text>10:49 PM</span>

<P>Yea , i wish i had a Tweeked warlock to group with.. he would get amends put on him and a paladin could just stand there and do nothing and hold aggro!!!!</P> <P>also with a paladin you can hit sigil of heroism, transfers 32% of groups aggro to you.. a paladin also has another group taunt called righteousness that is also a divine debuff.. if you choose a paladin get your taunts atleast adept3, and pick righteousness as your master2 choice.. i also have all my combat arts at adept3 or masters...</P> <P> </P> <P> paladins soloing: if you have good plate armor on, and keep the spells and combat arts up.. from level 56 on adept3 or masters for sure..... In the lower tiers soloing is easier, and you can also be a healer up to around level 30, into the 40's and on you need a dedicated healer always.... Soloing will take more time with a paladin but it can be done if your spells are up to adept3 or masters.. if you have a healer that you will be grouping with alot later on, honestly i would go with a beserker, i'll get to that in a minute...</P> <P>A paladin is a fun class to play, it can be annoying at times... but if one is setup correctly they are the best main assist in the game hands down, in my opinion, thats what a paladin is.... I've tanked epic x4's before, but i love being the main assist... That being said if you have a Guardian already, i would really consider rolling a Paladin, put good armor on him , and get your mitigation transfer spell adept3, and the Guardian will be pretty tough main tank....</P> <P> </P> <P> Now for my statement towards a Beserker.. if you like to solo, this is the tank class to pick, with the dps and the achievement points, these are aggro/dps machines... spells at adept1 are enough to solo in the lower levels, from about level 45 on start upgrading ca's here and there, i upgraded my hardest hitting ca's to adept3, and at 56 which i just dinged i have 10 alkali loams to upgrade all ca's to adept3 up to lvl60..... Use the stamina AA, and use a buckler and either a 1hand slashing or crushing, i speced out at sta 4/4/5/5, and i'm parsing 350-450dps on an even con triple up grouped with a templar only.. not to shabby... </P> <P>Both class's are fun to play, i like my pally and they play a role but they dont have near the dps as a beserker... A paladin can hold aggro across a group though, rather easily.. all you have to do is have sigil of heroism at adept3 or master, and also amends at master1 on the highest dps class in group and you wont lose aggro if you throw a taunt and a shield bash out every now and then..</P> <P> </P> <P>Paladins are more aimed at doing damage over a group, instead of a single target.. and in the 30's and 40's a Paladin is a blast to play but it takes more skill than with a zerk..</P>
